OneSignal is a customer engagement platform built for app developers and product teams. It sends mobile push notifications, web push notifications, email, SMS, RCS (Rich Communication Services), in-app messages and Live Activities from one dashboard, and pitches itself around what its homepage calls "autonomous lifecycle marketing": campaigns that onboard, engage and retain users. The About page says the founders built it because, as app developers, they "needed an easy-to-use, effective, and scalable way to engage our users. It didn't exist." It also says OneSignal "now empowers over a million businesses to send 12 billion messages daily" and that "One in every five apps now chooses OneSignal." The About page lists offices in San Mateo, New York and London, plus a partner office in Singapore, and names George Deglin as co-founder and CEO and Long Vo as co-founder and COO.
What you send and how
Email is one channel among several here rather than the center of the product. You send mobile push (Android, iOS and other device types the pricing FAQ lists), web push to browsers on desktop and mobile, email, SMS and MMS, RCS, and in-app messages shown inside your own app. The pricing page describes the email side as including both no-code and HTML message builders, an HTML editor, email auto warm up and, on the paid tiers, message throttling. Design integrations such as Stripo, Emailify and Email Love (which exports designs from Figma) sit in the integrations directory for teams that build their templates elsewhere.
The automation layer is Journeys, which the Journeys page describes as "An easy-to-use visual workflow builder to automate your messaging and guide your users." You map out workflows that send messages based on user attributes or behavior, and the builder supports branching, cross-channel flows, tagging users and quickstart Journeys "for onboarding, re-engagement, and promotions." The page stresses that it works "directly in the dashboard, no code required" and that there is "No need to wait on engineering resources." Webhook steps are listed as available on annual plans. The Journeys page reports that "Apps that use Journeys have 13.6% higher average 30-day retention" and cites Sprocket, which it says "saw a 66% increase in overall 30-day activity", and Beach Bum Games, which "saw a 140% increase in paid user reactivation 10 days after implementing Journeys."
On top of that sits OneSignal AI. The homepage says you "Define your brand guardrails and let OneSignal AI handle the rest, including drafting, sending, testing, and optimizing." The pricing table lists a OneSignal AI Agent and a OneSignal MCP server, and the integrations directory includes connectors for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Replit, so audiences, campaigns and analytics can be managed from those tools.
Targeting covers audience segments, data tags, timezone delivery, personalized notifications and dynamic content on every plan, with intelligent delivery, time delayed sends, push and SMS retargeting on paid plans and frequency capping on the top tier. A/B testing is standard on Free and Growth and multivariate on Professional and Enterprise. API send access is unlimited on every plan, and the homepage offers SDKs for Android, iOS, Flutter, React Native, Expo and Unity, each with a copyable AI prompt meant to drop the SDK into a codebase.
Reporting depends on the tier. Reporting history runs up to 30 days on Free, 90 days on Growth, one year on Professional and two years on Enterprise. Confirmed receipt and a user activity timeline come with the paid plans, while advanced analytics, conversion metrics, CSV exports of notification data and the notification history API are reserved for the annual plans.
Plans and pricing
The pricing page shows four plans. Free costs $0 a month and is "For individuals and organizations just starting out," with access to all channels, basic automation and analytics, OneSignal AI and MCP, and basic personalization. Its limits in the plan table: 10,000 email sends a month, unlimited mobile push and in-app messaging for organizations with up to 1,000 monthly active users, web push capped at 10,000 subscribers per send, 3 active Journeys, 6 audience segments and 6 data tags.
Growth "Starts at $19/mo" and is described as "For small teams optimizing growth." It is month-to-month, with a fixed platform fee plus usage. Email includes 20,000 free sends a month, then $1.50 per 1,000 sends. Mobile push is $0.012 per monthly active user and web push $0.004 per web push subscriber, with in-app messages included with mobile push. Growth raises the limits to 5 active Journeys, 10 segments and 10 data tags.
Professional and Enterprise are custom-priced annual contracts sold through the sales team. Professional allows 20 active Journeys, 20 segments and 100 data tags; Enterprise lifts those to unlimited. Contacts are unlimited on all four plans. Both annual tiers can buy premium integrations, and the plan table says a dedicated IP is "available based on volume" on these two, while Free and Growth send from a shared IP only. SMS and RCS are marked available on Free and Growth and purchasable with volume based discounting on the annual plans; the Growth cost calculator shows SMS/RCS as "Talk to sales."
The FAQ explains how billing works: mobile push is charged by monthly active users with unlimited sends, web push by subscribers with unlimited sends, and email and SMS by send volume. OneSignal takes payment in USD only, by card or PayPal, and annual customers may pay by wire or ACH or buy through the GCP Marketplace. Annual customers can also pay in local currency through reseller partners in parts of APAC, LATAM and MENA.
Growth customers can downgrade to Free at any time in the dashboard "without penalty", with the change taking effect at the end of the billing period. Annual customers change plans through their account rep, and customers on retired plans such as Starter or monthly Professional cannot return to that legacy pricing once they switch.
Data retention, compliance and support
On paid plans OneSignal keeps subscription records until you delete them. On the Free plan it retains records active in the past 18 months; a record counts as dormant when the user has not used your app or visited your site, or OneSignal has processed no data for them, in more than 18 months.
The pricing table marks GDPR compliance on every plan, as "Compliant" on Free and "Compliant w/ DPA" on the paid tiers. Two-factor authentication and data protection are listed on all plans, audit logs are kept 48 hours on the lower tiers and 90 days on Enterprise, and a service level agreement is available only on Enterprise. Payments go through Recurly with 128-bit SSL encryption, according to the FAQ.
Support follows the plan: prioritized support starts with Growth, jump start onboarding is a custom option on Professional and Enterprise, and a dedicated success manager is offered on Enterprise. For plan questions the FAQ offers the email address support+sales@onesignal.com or a chat.
Integrations
The integrations directory groups partners by category, from analytics and attribution to CDPs, CRMs, data warehouses, gaming and workflow automation, and the plan table counts "30+ core" integrations on every plan. Named partners include Amplitude, Mixpanel, Segment, Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, HubSpot, RevenueCat, AppsFlyer, Adjust, RudderStack, Hightouch, Simon Data, Unity, WordPress VIP and Zapier. Email providers appear too: SendGrid, Mailgun and Mailchimp are all listed, alongside Retool, which the directory says can connect your database to OneSignal for messaging across notifications, in-app, SMS and email.
Who it suits
OneSignal is built for teams whose users live in an app. The homepage frames its use cases around fintech teams chasing first-week activation, gaming studios trying to get players into new game modes, and health and wellness apps that lose users silently before renewal fails. A product team that wants to run onboarding and re-engagement flows across push, in-app messages and email without waiting on engineers is the reader the Journeys page is written for.
The Free plan gives an early-stage app a real starting point, with every channel, 10,000 email sends a month and push for up to 1,000 monthly active users. Growth suits a small team that wants usage-based billing without an annual contract. Larger senders who need a dedicated IP, an SLA, long reporting history or local-currency billing end up on the annual plans.
A business that mainly sends newsletters or email campaigns to a list, with no app behind it, will find that OneSignal prices and organizes everything around app users and push subscribers, and that email is one channel among several rather than the focus of the product.
