Airship is a customer experience platform for large consumer brands whose relationship with the customer runs through a mobile app. It sends push notifications, SMS, RCS and MMS, email and mobile wallet passes, and it builds in-app and web experiences, all orchestrated from one place. The FAQ says the company was formerly Urban Airship and "has pioneered mobile innovation for over 15 years", and it claims the first commercial push notification, the first in-app message, the first cross-platform wallet passes and the first Live Activities. Email is one channel in that mix rather than the center of it, and the entry should be read that way.

What a sender gets

The channel menu on the site names four sending channels: push notifications, SMS/RCS/MMS, email and mobile wallet. Two "conversion destinations" sit beside them, the app and the web, where Airship renders its own native experiences. The FAQ describes the mix as "app, web, email, push, SMS/RCS and mobile wallet", with mobile at the center, and the home page puts it plainly: "Mobile isn't a channel. It's the remote control to your customers' lives."

Email appears in Airship's own lifecycle explainer as targeted, personalized mail sent at different lifecycle stages: welcome, engagement, retention and winback emails. The push page says push is meant to run alongside email, SMS, in-app, wallet and web messaging "to deliver cohesive, optimized experiences across the entire lifecycle." The home page lists the lifecycle programs the platform is built for: acquisition, onboarding, upsell and cross-sell, retargeting, churn prevention and win back.

The platform modules named in the menu are customer data management, surveys, recommendations and audience pulse, Scenes, performance analytics, integrations and real-time data streams. Around them the site describes:

  • cross-channel journeys built as "goal-based roadmaps" rather than one-off blasts
  • in-session surveys, forms and preference centers to capture what customers want
  • rich native experiences for app and web, "including forms, surveys, and branching layouts", built "truly without code, with no custom HTML or JavaScript overlays"
  • testing and measurement, where the platform serves the variant most likely to convert and "shifts traffic toward what's performing" without waiting for a test to close
  • app store optimization, unified opt-ins and personalized onboarding for the acquisition stage

The push page adds real-time behavior and lifecycle signals for timing, dynamic content, unified reporting and Performance Analytics, and quotes three customer results: a 25% increase in streaming time among users who get rich, timely push, 20% higher retention among players who get behavior-based push, and a 60% higher direct open rate after optimizing push with Performance Analytics and predictive AI.

AI agents

Airship's newer pitch is its agents, which the home page says "arrive pre-trained and quickly learn your brand." Three are named. The Scenes Agent takes a written description and returns a native, on-brand experience with layout, copy and branching logic, which you can edit and approve at any level before it ships. The Recommendations AI Agent looks at customer behavior to find who is moving toward value and who is drifting, and suggests actions. The Dashboard AI Agent explains what is being measured, pulls relevant documentation inline and reads live dashboard data, so a marketer gets a plain-language read on results without building a report. The page frames all of it as "Give it a goal, put it to work, approve it at every step."

Integrations and data

The FAQ says Airship connects to "CDPs, CRMs, cloud data warehouses, personalization tools and analytics systems", with real-time, two-way flows: data comes in for activation and goes back out for measurement, and those flows drive the push, in-app, email, SMS and wallet messages. It describes Airship's role next to a CRM as activating the CRM's data across every channel. The site also runs a partner ecosystem of digital agencies, systems integrators and technology companies, and a developer section with technical resources and implementation guides.

Security, guarantee and evidence of results

The FAQ lists SOC 2 Type II, end-to-end encryption, multi-factor authentication and single sign-on, and role-based access control as standard across the platform, and says Airship supports GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and "the growing set of US state privacy laws." A Trust Center is linked from the footer.

The headline promise is a guarantee: Airship calls itself "the only cross-channel customer experience platform that guarantees results", backed by its 15+ years in mobile. The site leans on outside validation for the rest. It cites a Forrester Total Economic Impact study with a 476% ROI, where a composite organization with 5 million digitally activated customers booked $7.3M in benefits against a $1.3M cost to buy, deploy and run Airship. It says Airship was named in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Multichannel Marketing Hubs for the second year running.

Named customers include Alaska Airlines, The Home Depot, BBC, McDonald's, PayPal, Chipotle, Vodafone, Saks Fifth Avenue and the US Open, and the case studies cover Allstate, Southwest Airlines, AccuWeather, CIMB and AMC Theatres. AMC, per the lifecycle explainer, used rich push with images and trailers, geofenced offers and re-engagement campaigns to grow app use and ticket sales. The industries the site serves are retail, media and entertainment, finance and insurance, travel and hospitality, sports and telecom.

Plans, onboarding and support

No prices appear on the site's pages. The FAQ says onboarding "starts with a live demo" and then points to pricing plans to find the option that fits, so expect a sales-led contract. What the customer gets after signing is spelled out: implementation services, onboarding support and a dedicated experience manager for every customer, with Premium Services on top for migrations, new experience launches and staffing gaps. Airship's Customer Experience team works alongside the brand from onboarding forward, backed by documentation for marketers, developers and product owners.

Who it suits

Airship fits a B2C enterprise whose app is the main place customers act: an airline, a bank, a retailer with a loyalty app, a streaming or sports brand. For those teams push, in-app, wallet passes and SMS carry most of the weight, and email is the channel that reaches people when the app is closed. The guarantee, the experience manager and the SOC 2 and SSO setup are aimed squarely at that buyer.

It is a poor fit for a newsletter publisher, a small online shop or anyone who wants to sign up and send a campaign today. There is no self-serve plan on the site and no published price, and a sender whose customers never install an app would be paying for machinery built around one.
