SuperMailer

Tap a star to rate

SuperMailer is Windows desktop software for creating and sending newsletters and personalized mail-merge emails (Serienmails) from your own computer. You write the message in a built-in HTML editor, keep the recipient list on your own machine, and send through an outgoing mail server of your choice, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft 365 or Amazon SES. The site is German, and the homepage marks 25 years of the product. An English-language version is offered on a separate international site.

The core promise is on-premise ownership. The standalone page lists the advantages: installation on your local Windows computer or a Windows server in your own network, recipients stored on your own computer and not on third-party servers in the cloud, and therefore no data processing agreement needed. It is free for up to 100 newsletter recipients; after that you pay a one-time license fee that includes free software updates, with no monthly fees and no subscription.

Writing a newsletter

The homepage compares writing a newsletter in SuperMailer to working in a word processor. Messages can be text, HTML or multipart, and the HTML part is built with an integrated WYSIWYG HTML editor or an assistant, so no HTML knowledge is needed. The product page adds a newsletter assistant (an in-place editor), formatting of fonts and tables, embedded images, and ready-made newsletter templates alongside your own HTML templates. The FAQ says the bundled sample templates are responsive, and that from version 9.0 a pure HTML source editor lets you add your own stylesheets for phones.

Personalization runs on placeholders that are replaced with each recipient's data when the mail goes out. Query functions build a personal salutation, and the FAQ links to tutorials on personalized mail with if-then logic. Attachments can be the same for everyone or individual per recipient, which is how the site suggests sending invoices, order confirmations or voucher codes; a 2023 release added conversion of self-built HTML attachments into (digitally signed) PDF files. Spintax support, added in version 15.00, creates several variants of one email from a single template, which the release notes say can help deliverability.

Other features on the product page: simple polls with voting buttons, a newsletter archive for your own website (also as an RSS feed), a browser link to view the newsletter online, and QR codes generated by SuperMailer itself. Version 14.30 brought OpenAI: texts or images can be created and used in the newsletter, which needs your own OpenAI API key and may incur costs with heavy use.

Recipients and signups

Recipient addresses can be imported from Microsoft Outlook 2003 and newer, from Excel sheets, from external databases, and from the Microsoft Cloud, where version 15.00 added support for contact categories. A PHP MySQL export script imports recipients from a web database.

Free signup and unsubscribe scripts (PHP, Perl, ASP) put a subscription form on your website and an unsubscribe link in the newsletter, and they support double opt-in. There are ready integrations for Joomla, WordPress, Drupal and Jimdo, a captcha, and a 2026 update that can send a BCC copy of every signup and unsubscribe email to an archive address, prompted by a court ruling the homepage cites that log files and IP addresses alone are not enough proof of double opt-in consent. SuperMailer then collects signups and unsubscribes from a dedicated mailbox. A bounce function detects hard bounces and deletes those addresses from every recipient group, and a global block list keeps blocked recipients out.

Sending

The standalone page lists sending via SMTP servers, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Outlook classic and Amazon SES. Outlook sending covers Outlook 2003 to 2022 (Microsoft 365 and Office 365), and SMTP supports OAuth2 for Microsoft 365 and Google Mail. Where a firewall blocks SMTP, SuperMailer can send over HTTP through Microsoft Graph, the Amazon SES web API, the Gmail API or the SendGrid API, though the release notes warn that HTTP sending "ist immer langsamer und limitierter als der direkte Versand per SMTP" (is always slower and more limited than direct SMTP sending). A further mode uploads a PHP sending script to your own webspace, which the FAQ says speeds up sending with attachments by at least 20 times.

The homepage warns that Outlook (New) can no longer be remote-controlled, so the Outlook sending mode stops working once Microsoft switches a machine to the new app; SMTP, webspace and Microsoft Cloud sending are unaffected. You can define several SMTP servers with sending limits, import them from a CSV file, and set sending days and hours outside which SuperMailer pauses a long send. The separate SuperMailer-Planer schedules sends for a date and time. Since version 15.00 a project can be switched to transactional mail with a List-Help header instead of an unsubscribe link.

On deliverability, SuperMailer checks the sending domain for SPF and DMARC records before sending, and adds a CFBL-Address header when DomainKey signing is enabled. The FAQ explains SPF records and suggests paid SMTP relays when a provider forbids newsletter sending.

Tracking

Tracking counts newsletter opens and link clicks, with optional personal per-recipient tracking that shows how often and when each person opened the email, and Google Analytics is supported. Since version 14.10, the webstat.php script shows tracking statistics as charts in a browser, and poll results can be viewed online too.

Data protection

The site's DSGVO (GDPR) page explains the rules for sending to existing customers and to signups, says new signups need double opt-in and a note on the purpose plus a link to your privacy policy, and states that bought addresses may never be used. It says SuperMailer customers need no data processing agreement because they store the data on their own computer or web server.

Pricing, versions and support

The freeware version handles up to 100 newsletter recipients and comes in 32-bit and 64-bit builds for Windows 10 and Windows 11; the FAQ lists support back to Windows XP and all Windows Server versions. Larger lists need a one-time license; the product pages do not list its price. Updates install through the built-in online update. Version 15.00 was announced on 20.11.2025, and the homepage shows a rating of 4.7 out of 5.0 from 6155 reviews. Support runs through a user forum, a feedback form, an online help and a PDF manual, and German-language phone support on weekdays.

Mac and Linux users are pointed to SuperWebMailer, the company's browser-based PHP newsletter software. Related products include FollowUpMailer for automatic follow-up series, BirthdayMailer, SMSout for SMS, SuperMailingList for online recipient management and SuperInvoice.

Who it suits

SuperMailer suits German-speaking small businesses, associations and offices on Windows that want recipient data on their own PC or server, and that already have a mail server, Microsoft 365 or Amazon SES to send through. It fits companies that mail invoices or vouchers as individual attachments. It suits Mac users, teams wanting a browser tool, or anyone who needs drip automation built in much less.
