Tap a star to rate

Privy is an email and SMS marketing platform for ecommerce stores, with its own popup and on-site display tools for growing the list. The home page calls it "The only platform combining powerful email, SMS, and list growth tools with personalized expert strategy" and bills it as "Shopify's #1 Reviewed Email & SMS Marketing App". It works with Shopify, BigCommerce, Squarespace, Weebly, Wix and WooCommerce, and the site says it has 10,000+ customers. The About page gives the mission as "To empower every ecommerce business to grow faster, build meaningful customer relationships, and compete with the biggest brands" without complexity or huge budgets, and says the team is dedicated to helping small and medium-sized brands grow.

What a sender actually gets

Email campaigns. Emails are built in a drag-and-drop editor from a library of customizable templates "with baked-in best practices". You pull in your logo and brand colors, and the editor connects to the Shopify product catalog and Shopify coupons so products and discount codes drop straight into a message. The home page describes the flow from idea to scheduled send: pull in products and discount codes, segment the list and schedule, "no hours of setup required".

SMS. The SMS side covers campaigns for exclusive offers and new products, a campaign editor, personalization with merge tags, and "Built-in quiet hours protection" so texts do not go out at the wrong time of day. The product overview also mentions two-way conversations with subscribers.

Automation (Flows). Privy's flow builder is visual and starts from prebuilt templates that "implement best practices -- from Welcome Series to Abandoned Carts to Customer Winbacks". The named uses are recovering abandoned carts, converting new visitors into first-time customers, purchase follow-up and winback series. Triggers include order placed, order received and cart abandoned, fed by the Shopify, BigCommerce and Wix integrations. A single flow can mix email and SMS, split the audience with conditional logic and branching on message behavior or contact properties, and offer personalized incentives. Purchase history, from order counts to lifetime spend, can shape the messages, and a contact exits a flow when they buy, which the site presents as a guard against message fatigue.

How the pieces connect. The product overview says onsite conversion, campaigns and reporting "are all connected", so you can follow a subscriber from the popup that captured them to the revenue their messages drove. It also says Privy can be "Set up in minutes with no developer required", which matters for a store owner running marketing alone.

Segmentation. Segments are built on shopping behavior, message and website engagement, and built-in and custom properties, and there are pre-built smart segments to start from.

Displays and list growth. On-site capture gets as much attention as sending, with a deep popup toolkit: flexible popups with granular targeting, exit-intent offers, quizzes, spin-to-win, free shipping bars, cross-sells, cart savers, multi-step popups, landing pages and embedded forms, with A/B testing. The home page says there are "dozens of proven templates" for these.

Reporting. Real-time reports show opens, clicks and revenue for each email or SMS across campaigns and automated flows. The product overview lists signup rate, attributed revenue, message engagement and delivery performance, and flow reporting runs from account-wide performance down to message-level insights with revenue and conversion tracking.

AI assistants. A banner across the site announces "Your Privy data, now available in ChatGPT and Claude", so account data can be queried from those assistants.

Plans and pricing

The pricing page gives one main plan with an SMS add-on:

  • Email and SMS plan: "Starts at $30/month with 250 free SMS credits included". Pricing is set by mailable contacts ("Only pay for mailable contacts"), and email sends are unlimited ("Send unlimited emails"). Everything is included in one place: email and SMS campaigns, advanced pop-up design and targeting, "Email & live chat support", email and SMS automations, advanced targeting and segmentation, 3rd-party integrations, unlimited email sends and advanced reporting.
  • SMS add-on: monthly credits, sized with a calculator on the page; unused "Credits rollover to next billing period".
  • Pop-ups & Displays only: "Starting at $24", with "Pricing based on monthly page views". It includes the template library, landing pages, embedded forms, A/B testing, spin-to-win, cart savers and cross-sell popups, multi-step popups and quizzes, and exit-intent popups. Contacts collected this way "automatically sync to your Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix account, and select third-party platforms including Klaviyo", so a store can use Privy for capture and send email elsewhere.

The page says Privy works "without email sending limits, annual contracts, or hidden fees". The trial is a "15-day free trial" with "No credit card required", and the home page adds "Free Migration Assistance" and "Cancel Anytime". Its before-and-after comparison promises "Pricing based on real contacts, not 'active' profiles" and "No long-term commitments or opaque pricing". The FAQ questions on the pricing page (what a mailable contact is, what happens at the contact limit, what an SMS credit is) are listed without their answers on the page.

Support and service

Support is by email and live chat on every plan. The home page promises "Support that responds in minutes, not days", "Expert coaching, without the expert prices" and "Strategists dedicated to you & your business", and the footer offers a "Get a dedicated expert" route alongside "Talk to sales" and "Book a Demo". Customer reviews quoted on the home page focus on support, with one merchant naming their customer success manager. The legal footer links a data processing addendum and an acceptable use policy.

Company and backing

The About page names Alex Persson as CEO, with a CTO, VP of Sales, Head of Customer Experience and VP of Marketing on the team. Investors listed are the venture firm CRV and the growth equity firm Stripes, with Mike Volpe (founding CMO of HubSpot) and Ben Jabbawy, described as Privy's founding CEO, as individual investors.

Who it suits and who it does not

Privy suits small and medium online stores, Shopify first, that want email, SMS and strong on-site capture tools in one account with a single contact-based price and unlimited email. Stores with a big popup program and modest email needs, or those happy with their current sender, can buy the displays product on its own. Merchants who want coaching and fast chat support rather than a self-teach tool are the audience the home page speaks to.

It is not aimed at senders without an online store, such as newsletter publishers, B2B teams or developers who need an email API. Large brands with a complex data stack will find the product deliberately simple: the site's own slogan is "All power. No complexity."
