Rule is an email, SMS and RCS marketing platform that describes itself as a Swedish service. Its homepage calls it "En all-in-one plattform för e-post, SMS, RCS och Marketing Automation med AI-verktyg som driver tillväxt och skapar personaliserade kundresor" (an all-in-one platform for email, SMS, RCS and marketing automation with AI tools that drive growth and create personalized customer journeys). It sends newsletters and campaigns, automated flows and multi-step customer journeys, and text messages, and its footer lists the industries it serves: concerts and events, media houses, e-commerce and retail, organizations and associations, hotels and tourism, car sales, banking and finance, and service and B2B companies.
The newsletter pages say Rule has helped companies succeed with their newsletters since 2007, and the homepage says it is trusted by 3500+ companies around the world. The site is available in English, Swedish, Norwegian Bokmål and German, and the company behind it is Rule Communication.
Newsletters, the editor and Brand Style
Rule calls its newsletter tool a smart newsletter program for creating, sending and following up your mailings. Emails are built in a drag-and-drop editor that the site says lets you put together a good-looking send in a few minutes with no design skills. A feature called Brand Style handles the visual side: you enter your domain, Rule fetches your logo, colors and fonts from your website (or you add them by hand), and your campaigns and automations are then generated in your brand. The homepage says that when you register with your company address, this gets you ready to send your first mailing in just 5 minutes.
Two other editor features stand out. You can drag content from a URL straight into a newsletter block, so a whole product list from a web shop, a page of news articles or a blog can be pulled into a mailing at once. And Rule builds custom templates for customers from the material and brand profile they send in, making sure they display correctly across email clients and devices; ready-made templates are available too. The site says every email is responsive for mobile and desktop. A recent addition, according to a blog teaser on the English site, is "Variants," a mailing with multiple variations tailored to each recipient.
Segmentation and personalization
Segmentation runs on your own data. The newsletter page gives examples such as gender, interest or data points from past purchase behavior deciding which news or offers each recipient gets. You can create and manage several audiences, add specific audiences as recipients of specific sections within one newsletter, and recipient lists update automatically as people subscribe. The navigation also lists hyper-personalization and customer loyalty features. Contacts can be imported as ready-made lists, and the email marketing page recommends signup forms on every page of your website, whether for a newsletter or a PDF download. One customer, the chain New Wave, says Rule lets each company within the group send its own mailings to its own end customers alongside central sends.
Automation and customer journeys
Rule's marketing automation tool creates preset, automated communication loops, and the site says it uses customers' digital footprints to streamline touchpoints. A Journey Builder maps dynamic customer journeys to each stage of the customer's path. The Swedish email page names typical flows: abandoned carts, welcome flows and product recommendations. Rule's own article on European email platforms describes it as supporting complex automation workflows, dynamic content personalization, lifecycle triggers and A/B testing, with multi-step workflows that respond to real-time customer behavior. In one case study, the web agency ZCO Stockholm built automated flows in Rule for the brand Sandqvist that adapt to 44 markets and several languages.
SMS and RCS
SMS runs in the same platform, and the homepage claims its SMS tool gives your sends an unrivaled open rate. RCS is sold as the next generation of SMS. The case studies show how the channels work together: Refunder sent over 100,000 RCS messages during Black Friday with SMS fallback for full reach and got a 90% open rate, and SethAndSally now reaches open rates of up to 60% after working on a consistent customer experience across email and SMS.
Reporting and A/B testing
Rule Analytics brings together statistics from automations, campaigns, SMS and journeys, so you can follow performance trends and segment user groups. The email marketing page says you can see which links recipients click, which customers go on to buy, and which parts of a mailing get read most, tracking a customer from opening the email to completing a purchase and seeing the revenue from your email marketing. Statistics are available in real time, and campaigns can be followed up in Google Analytics through Rule's integration. A/B testing compares versions of a newsletter; the clothing brand A Day's March raised its CTR by 170% with A/B testing in Rule, according to its case study.
Deliverability
The newsletter page says Rule protects its mail servers and monitors them actively to prevent spam classification, and that secure servers and active monitoring give your mailings high deliverability, including as your list grows.
Integrations and API
The homepage invites you to "Kolla in några av våra +100 integrationer" (check out some of our 100+ integrations) and shows Zapier, Shopify, WooCommerce, Google, Facebook, Siftlab, Nosto, Raptor, Triggerbee and Magento. Its e-commerce integrations collect and sync order data from your web shop. A Meta integration lets you use customer data from your Rule account for targeted marketing in more channels and to re-engage potential buyers. The footer links to API documentation, integrations and partners, a workshop, customer success management and an Enterprise page.
Plans and Rule Free
Plan prices sit on a separate pricing page. The email marketing page says Rule's packages let you send an unlimited number of newsletters and email campaigns. For a start at no cost there is Rule Free, a free version of the tool. The Swedish newsletter page says it gives free access to features such as automations and the Campaign Editor for up to 250 contacts, and the Norwegian page says Rule Free includes all features and unlimited sends each month to up to 250 contacts. The signup form promises prepared templates and free email, no payment card, no lock-in period and no hidden extra fees. Demos are booked from the site.
Data protection and support
On data protection, the Swedish FAQ says Rule, as a Swedish service that is fully GDPR compliant, handles your data safely and that all customer data stored in the platform is protected under current data protection law. Rule's article on European platforms adds that its architecture is designed around European data residency, keeping all contact information within the EU. The footer links to a data processing agreement and an anti-spam policy.
Support is available in Swedish between 08 and 17, Monday to Friday, and a knowledge base in Swedish covers every feature for unstaffed hours. A Help Center and two free Rule tool books sit under resources.
Who it suits
Rule suits companies, especially Nordic e-commerce and retail brands, that want email, SMS and RCS in one platform with automation that reaches into order data. Its FAQ says it focuses on Nordic companies and GDPR-safe email marketing. Brand Style and custom templates make it quick to start without a designer, Rule Free lets a small list try it at no cost, and the EU data residency statement matters for teams that must keep contact data in Europe. The main caveat is language: support hours and the knowledge base are in Swedish.
