What mailXpert is

mailXpert is email marketing software made in Switzerland by mailXpert GmbH, whose address is in Zurich. It covers the whole path from a single newsletter to marketing automation: you design emails in an online editor, send them to targeted and personalized recipient groups, automate parts of the program, and read detailed reports afterward. The homepage calls it "die führende Schweizer Lösung für professionelles E-Mail-Marketing" (the leading Swiss solution for professional email marketing) and says newsletters and marketing emails go out reliably and in line with the law. According to the same page, more than 500 Swiss companies rely on mailXpert for their email marketing.

The company gives three reasons to choose it, in this order: deliverability, data location in Switzerland, and personal support. Those three points run through the whole site, from the feature pages to the separate sending service for developers, and they are the clearest way to understand who the product is built for.

Designing and sending campaigns

Emails are built in mailXpert's own online editor, and the company says you can design an email there in minutes. mailXpert is operated entirely through the web browser. The support page explains that the newsletter editor in particular uses very modern technology to keep it simple to operate while still handling complex layouts, and for that reason mailXpert asks for a reasonably capable machine. It recommends a PC or Mac with an i5 processor at 2.5 GHz or more and at least 8 GB of RAM, and it lists the recommended browsers in order of how well they perform with mailXpert: Google Chrome first, then Mozilla Firefox, then Microsoft Edge. That is useful to know before a team with older office hardware signs up.

Sending is aimed at precision rather than blasting one list. The homepage describes sending "zielgenau und personalisiert" (precisely targeted and personalized) to your recipient groups, and the sending section promises emails and newsletters that actually reach the recipient.

Contacts, automation and reports

Contact management is built around the idea that data can arrive from many directions. The feature overview puts it as "Formulare, CRM, Webshop & Co.: Alle Wege führen zu mailXpert", meaning forms, a CRM, a web shop and other sources can all feed contacts into the platform. A separate interfaces section is about connecting mailXpert with your own applications.

Automation is described as turning a customer journey into a mailXpert flow. The homepage frames it as automating parts of your email marketing so the software works for you, which places mailXpert beyond a plain newsletter sender and into marketing automation.

Reporting gives detailed evaluations of every send in a campaign, so each newsletter can be judged on its own results. Surveys have their own evaluations with charts, filters and PDF reports, described below.

Forms and surveys

Forms and surveys get their own feature page, under the heading of turning your data into gold. In mailXpert you design newsletter signup forms, recipient profile forms and surveys. Every form can either be opened at a URL hosted on mailXpert's servers or embedded in your own website with a script, so a shop or association can collect signups on its own pages without building the form itself.

Surveys are pitched as a way to understand what your audience needs and wants, so that marketing and business decisions rest on real answers. You design a survey in a few clicks and publish it in the layout you want. The feature list includes:

  • several question types
  • surveys limited to your contacts or open to the public
  • several pages for longer surveys
  • your own designs
  • automatic optimization for mobile devices
  • evaluations with charts and filters
  • the survey result as an automatic PDF report

You can invite existing contacts by email, anonymously if you choose, or make a survey public so that it wins you new contacts as well. Answers are stored separately for each survey, and all records can be downloaded at any time as a CSV or Excel file. mailXpert also produces graphical evaluations automatically, which you can export directly as a PDF for presentations. The survey tool sits in the same account as the contact lists it feeds.

mailomat, the SMTP service and sending API

For transactional email and application sending, mailXpert developed a separate service called mailomat. The company describes it as the Swiss solution for developers and organizations with individual requirements, and invites you to hand your email sending over to it. mailomat works in two ways. Developers use it as a sending API for functions such as password resets and order confirmations. Other software uses it as an external SMTP service, so that a third-party application's mail goes out through mailomat, which the company says guarantees the highest deliverability.

The company calls mailomat a CSA-certified sending service with mail servers on Swiss soil, built for small and large volumes alike. Its feature list names simple communication with the mailomat API, the highest deliverability, local sending even when you use cloud applications, suitability for all outgoing email, capacity for high sending volumes, quick and simple setup, and all servers in Switzerland. mailomat is free for 200 emails a month. It has its own website, where you can create a free account and try it.

Pricing, trial and data location

Plans sit in a pricing section split into subscription packages ("Abo-Pakete"), an on-premises option, services, and a separate offer for agencies; the feature pages themselves quote no figures. The on-premises entry matters for organizations that cannot use a hosted service at all, and the agency entry is aimed at firms that run email for clients.

Before buying, you can create a test account free of charge and without obligation. The forms page says the test account lets you try all mailXpert features. The site also offers appointment booking for a consultation.

Data location is one of the three core promises. The homepage lists "Datenstandort Schweiz" (data location Switzerland) among its reasons to choose mailXpert, the About section has its own page on the subject, and every mailomat server is in Switzerland.

Support

Support is personal and comes in several layers. A knowledge base holds guides and practical information on using mailXpert, and the company suggests checking it before you call or open a ticket. The integrated ticket system, available to all customers inside the application, is described as the fastest and most efficient way to get help, and you can see the processing status of a ticket at any time. Customers also get phone consultation free of charge, charged only at the normal call rate, and the team can help through TeamViewer if you want. Beyond support, mailXpert's email marketing specialists give personal advice by phone, by email, in an online meeting, or on site at your company. A system status page is linked for customers.

Developers who have booked the API module can build their own apps for mailXpert. The API documentation describes all interface functions in detail, and first-step guides make the start easier.

Who it suits

mailXpert fits Swiss companies and associations that want their contact data kept in Switzerland and prefer a supplier they can call, meet online or invite to their office. The survey and form tools make it a good match for organizations that collect feedback as well as send newsletters. Teams with an in-house application get transactional sending from the same company through mailomat, and the free 200 emails a month let a developer test it at no cost. Agencies and organizations that need an on-premises installation have their own pricing tracks.

The limits are worth knowing. The site is written in German, and budgeting starts in the pricing section, with a test account or with a consultation, since the feature pages carry no prices. The browser editor also asks for a fairly modern computer. For a Swiss sender who values local data, reachable people and a single supplier for newsletters and application mail, those are small trade-offs.
