What Mailrelay is

Mailrelay is an email marketing platform for creating, sending and managing newsletters with full statistics on how subscribers behave. It is run by CPC SERVICIOS INFORMATICOS SL, whose footer address is in Torrelodones, Madrid, Spain, and its site is available in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The FAQ pitches it at every size of sender, from a small business mailing a few hundred people to a large company sending millions of emails a month. Beyond email campaigns, the product menu lists SMS, WhatsApp, landing pages and transactional email.

The headline offer is the free account. The site's own title calls it "the Largest Free Account", and the homepage says it lets you send up to 80,000 emails a month to up to 20,000 contacts, with technical support included "Always with an human touch". The FAQ confirms the same two limits for the free plan. Reviews collected on the pricing page give the service a 4.9 rating based on 583 reviews.

Building and sending campaigns

The homepage reduces the workflow to three steps: import your contacts, create and send the newsletter in an AI-enabled drag and drop editor, then track who opened, when, and how they interacted. The editor section lists AI generated content, scheduled delivery, conditional content and A/B testing. The pricing page's list of features included on every plan, the free one too, adds an AI email designer, a template gallery, importing campaigns from multiple sources and RSS campaigns, which send new posts from a feed automatically.

Scheduling goes further than a send time. The site says you can deliver on specific hours and days, skip weekends and avoid non-business hours, and that this works even when contacts sit in different time zones. Personalization runs from showing a contact's name to showing or hiding parts of the content according to their preferences.

Two technical limits are worth knowing. One email counts as one message up to 100 kB; a larger email counts an extra message for each further 100 kB block, attachments and headers included, so a 250 kB email is billed as 3 emails. Images in a newsletter can be up to 2 MB, and the media manager accepts uploads of up to 3 MB.

Contacts, forms and automation

Contact management covers groups and tags, segments built on your own conditions, custom fields, contact scoring, automatic contact import and automatic list cleaning. Signups, unsubscribe requests and bounces are handled automatically. The FAQ explains the bounce handling: hard bounces are tagged so they are never mailed again, a shared database of invalid addresses tags known bad addresses at import, and after the first send only active subscribers are mailed, so bounced addresses are neither sent to nor charged.

Every plan includes landing pages with templates, signup forms with custom fields, and conversion tracking. The automation list is specific: a visual automation builder, signup, birthday and date triggers, group and tag triggers, abandoned cart, conditions and branching, sending SMS from an automation, and webhook actions. The homepage names welcome emails, drip campaigns and abandoned carts as typical workflows, and the FAQ confirms autoresponders work on the free account.

Reporting includes campaign and automation reports, delivery, bounce and unsubscribe statistics, shareable report links and CSV or PDF export. The homepage tracking list names open rate, a clicks heatmap, click-through rate and bounces. Account features cover users, roles and permissions, and an audit trail.

SMTP, API and integrations

The homepage says an SMTP server is available on all accounts, for transactional emails or high-volume sending, and offers a REST API for custom integrations. The pricing table sets the terms for transactional email via SMTP and API: included on the Standard and Enterprise plans, and on the free plan a 30-day trial followed by an add-on of 14,95 € a month. The FAQ adds two SMTP caveats: sending speed is limited by your own internet connection, and mail sent over SMTP does not appear in the visual statistics. The API covers contacts, campaigns and account management, and there are webhooks.

The Plugins page names three connectors: a WordPress plugin that syncs WordPress users with Mailrelay, a Prestashop extension for version 1.6 that syncs store customers so you can mail them, and a Make.com integration for updating subscriber profiles, organizing groups and resending confirmation emails from automated workflows.

Plans and pricing

Paid email comes in two forms. A subscription has a monthly limit on emails and on subscribers, the different addresses you send to. The limits reset on the monthly anniversary of the day the account was created, and if either is reached the account pauses until the next renewal, unless you bring the renewal forward or upgrade. Subscriptions carry a 12-month commitment, which can be removed by paying extra on the monthly fee, and can be ended with 1 month of notice at the end of the term. Annual billing takes 10% off.

Prepaid packages have no subscriber limit, only a number of messages, no commitment period, and up to 12 months to use them; buying another package of equal or higher size extends that period. The pricing FAQ gives the rule of thumb: a subscription for regular sending to the same database, a prepaid package for an occasional campaign or a monthly newsletter.

Prices are set with a slider. The subscription volumes run from 100,000 emails with up to 20,000 contacts to 10,000,000 emails with up to 2,000,000 contacts, and a second set of volumes without contact figures runs from 25,000 to 10,000,000 emails. The plans are Free, Standard and Enterprise. Standard and Enterprise get a priority sending queue and priority chat, ticket and phone support, and an unbranded public campaign archive where Free carries Mailrelay branding. Open and click tracking is included on Free and Enterprise but not on Standard. WhatsApp campaigns are included on the paid plans and on Free cost 9,95 € a month after a 10-day trial; Mailrelay charges only for the integration and Meta bills its per-conversation fee directly.

Prices exclude VAT. Payment is by bank transfer, credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Ali Pay or PayPal, no card is needed to open a free account, and invoices can be sent through the General Electronic Invoice Entry Point (FACE). A dedicated IP can be bought on an annual basis, and the team offers newsletter design as a paid extra.

Deliverability and sending rules

The homepage says Mailrelay runs its own IP ranges and several proprietary technologies to improve delivery rates. There is no daily sending limit, but new free accounts go through a 5-day analysis period during which sending speed is tuned to sender reputation and list quality; upgrading to a paid plan raises the speed within minutes. You can only send from a domain whose DNS you control, so that its SPF record can be set; free accounts may use up to 100 sender addresses on their own domain, and sending from other domains is reserved for paid accounts.

The anti-spam policy is strict and specific. It requires consent confirmed through double opt-in, proof of consent on request and a visible unsubscribe link, and it bans purchased or rented lists. A customer may hold only one free account, registrations from free email or hosting and from newly registered domains are refused, and a bounce rate above 25% is grounds for cancellation. The policy lists prohibited sectors, including gambling, cryptocurrencies, loans, adult content, divination and weapons, and it names CAN-SPAM, GDPR, LGPD and CASL among the laws campaigns must respect.

SMS

The SMS service lets you paste numbers or use those already in your contact lists, write a message in an editor that tells you when it will be split across several SMS, add links, and see how many messages were delivered in a statistics panel.

Who it suits

Mailrelay fits businesses, associations and publishers that want a generous free tier with real features, including automation, landing pages and A/B testing, and room to grow into monthly or prepaid plans. Occasional senders get a prepaid route without a subscriber cap, and WordPress and Prestashop sites have ready connectors. The caveats are the 12-month commitment on subscriptions, the strict registration rules for free accounts, and the add-on fees for transactional email and WhatsApp on the free plan.
