Maileon
Tap a star to rate
Maileon is an email marketing and marketing automation platform. The home page sums it up as "It all started with email, but it definitely didn't stop there", and the product now covers campaigns and newsletters, automated journeys, SMS and other channels, landing pages, and an SMTP relay with an email API for transactional sending. The company says that together with its partners it has more than 20 years of experience in the field, and it reports more than 3,000 customers and 10 offices worldwide. Its site runs in English, German, Spanish, Dutch and Hungarian, and a regional site at maileon.africa sells the same platform with prices in rand. Customer quotes on the home page come from publishers, online retailers, a mortgage adviser, a university and a book fair, and the solutions menu covers education and government, finance and insurance, publishing, sports and leisure, and e-commerce and retail, as well as B2B, B2C and franchise businesses.
What a sender gets
Editor and templates. The German comparison page describes Maileon's Editor 2.0 as offering many editing functions, including mobile and dark mode optimization, with drag-and-drop control over the smallest details. A quality assurance step runs checks on each campaign, and a dynamic preview shows how a personalized email renders on mobile, tablet or desktop. The same page mentions free email templates, a large library of stock graphics and built-in voucher sending. The Africa site adds that you can start from a template library, change colors, images and fonts to match your brand, or build your own template from scratch.
Sending and timing. Campaigns can go out at a fixed time or at each contact's individually optimal time of day, using what the page calls AI send time optimization. Reminder emails and retargeting campaigns, the page says, can be created and sent in a few clicks.
Contacts and permission. Contact management covers signup and unsubscribe processes, block lists and bounce management. Maileon lets you create multiple double opt-in processes in one account, which suits a business collecting permission in several ways, and it offers GDPR data subject access reports with one click. Its own verification software, AddressCheck, automatically filters out spam, phishing and inactive addresses so your figures reflect real readers.
Automation. A drag-and-drop marketing automation editor builds journeys, and the comparison page stresses that Maileon offers unlimited nodes, so complex workflows are not cut short by a node limit. A separate trigger mailing editor handles event-driven emails. The Africa site describes sending personalized deals and reminders based on customer interests and using drag-and-drop automation to track customer journeys.
Channels. Alongside email, the platform integrates SMS marketing, and the menu lists "Channels: Email, SMS & more". Maileon SMTP and an email API are offered for transactional and application email.
Landing pages. A landing page editor creates multi-purpose pages, for example product pages, competitions or surveys, that connect to your campaigns.
Reporting. The Africa site says you can customize reports and dashboards by dragging in the data you need and choose from over 42 real-time reports covering emails, lists, contacts and accounts. It names delivery, open, click-through, conversion, bounce and unsubscribe rates, plus an advanced analytics tool for deeper audience insights.
Integrations. The integrations menu covers analytics and tracking tools, CRM systems, CMS platforms, customer data platforms, integration hubs and shop systems. The German page adds a print service connection, webhooks for data exchange, and custom integrations built to link Maileon with in-house software. One customer on the home page praises its "extremely simple and powerful shop integrations".
Teams and partners. A flexible rights and roles system controls who can access and edit what, which a university customer singles out in its quote. Maileon has partner programs for agencies, tech and expert partners, an embeddable version, and the Africa site offers a white label option.
Data protection and security
The German comparison page states that Maileon offers "100 % DSGVO-Konformität, deutsche Serverstandorte, Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung und integrierte Mehrsprachigkeit für +12 Sprachen" (100% GDPR compliance, German server locations, two-factor authentication and built-in support for 12+ languages). Those are the company's own claims, published on its site.
Plans and pricing
The German page says "Maileon ist bereits ab 49 €/ Monat verfügbar" (Maileon is available from €49 a month), and that educational institutions and NGOs get attractive discounts. It also offers a free 30-day test of a demo version.
The Africa site publishes a full monthly price list in rand, with contacts and monthly sends for each tier:

The Africa site's free trial gives access to all features for 15 days with 10 email sends, and it includes the drag-and-drop editor, unlimited team members, marketing automation, contact segmentation, the landing page builder and reports. The same site also lists once-off and yearly pricing options.
Support
The German page says the service team can be reached by phone, email and chat, and that a help center and tutorial videos support self-service. Maileon also carries out custom projects to fit the platform to a customer's needs. The home page's customer quotes return again and again to short lines of communication and a direct contact person, and the company describes its style as "A personal approach to marketing automation".
Who it suits
Maileon suits mid-sized businesses, publishers, retailers, insurers, universities and public bodies that want deep automation, strict data protection and a named contact person. An organization that wants its data on German servers gets the stated server locations and GDPR claims, a large list with complex journeys benefits from unlimited automation nodes and multiple opt-in processes, and an agency can join the partner program or use the white label and embeddable options. A retailer can connect its shop system and send transactional email through Maileon SMTP.
The caveat is scope: Maileon is built for teams with growing ambitions, so a solo newsletter writer who needs only a simple editor may use a fraction of it. Outside the Africa site the pricing shown is a starting figure of €49 a month, so it pays to book a demo or ask for a quote before comparing costs.
