What IONOS Email Marketing is
IONOS is a web hosting and digital services company, and IONOS Email Marketing is the newsletter tool it sells alongside its domains, hosting, website builder, online store builder and business email. It sends newsletters and promotional campaigns to a contact list that the customer manages inside the tool. The company's own Digital Guide describes it as "particularly suitable for small and medium-sized companies" and as the choice "if sending emails in a GDPR-compliant way is particularly important to you, if you do business with customers in the EU, for example."
The tool is aimed at people who have never designed a newsletter before. The same article says that "it doesn't matter if you don't have prior knowledge of newsletter design" because the templates and the editor carry most of the design work. The IONOS website builder page lists email marketing among the tools a site owner can add, with the line "Send professional updates and promos to drive repeat business." For a business that already has its site, domain and mailboxes at IONOS, the email tool sits in the same account.
Building and sending a campaign
Campaigns are built in a drag-and-drop editor from ready-made design templates. IONOS describes the editing as "fast drag and drop editing" and says the templates are responsive, so a newsletter adapts to the device it is opened on. The German Digital Guide lists "Templates und responsives Design für verschiedene Endgeräte" (templates and responsive design for different devices) among the tool's functions. The Canadian product box adds that the templates are "smart templates" meant to "drive clicks and conversions."
The AI side is the feature IONOS puts first. The product box that appears on the UK comparison page reads "AI-powered text generation", and the caption under the product screenshot says the tool "stands out due to its AI-powered text generation." The article explains that "AI generated texts can help you formulate the newsletters' contents and help save time." In practice that means a sender can have a first draft of the copy produced inside the tool and then edit it, rather than starting from an empty text block. The German page calls the same thing "KI-gestützte Texterstellung zur schnelleren Content-Erstellung" (AI-assisted copywriting for faster content creation), and the Spanish product box says design is quick "gracias a la IA y multitud de plantillas" (thanks to AI and a large number of templates).
Contacts are handled in one place. The German page lists "Zentrale Kontaktverwaltung für zielgerichtete Kampagnen", central contact management for targeted campaigns, and says the software increasingly supports personalized campaigns and automated processes alongside classic newsletter functions. Subscriber sign-ups use double opt-in, which appears in the feature list on the UK, Canadian, German and Spanish comparison pages. That matters for anyone mailing European recipients, where confirmed consent is the normal expectation.
Reporting is real-time. The German feature list names "Echtzeit-Analyse und Tracking zur Optimierung der Performance" (real-time analysis and tracking to optimize performance), and the Canadian product box promises that a sender can "optimize every campaign with real-time analytics." The pages do not break the reports down metric by metric.
Connection with IONOS eCommerce
The tool is built to work with the rest of the IONOS catalog. The UK product box lists syncing with IONOS eCommerce as one of the 3 headline features, and the Spanish one reads "Integración sencilla del e-commerce y sincronización de contactos" (simple ecommerce integration and contact syncing). A shop built with the IONOS online store builder can therefore feed its customer contacts into the email tool without an export and re-import. The pages name no third-party integrations such as other shop systems or CRMs, so the tool is best understood as a companion to IONOS's own website and store products.
Plans and prices
IONOS prices the tool by monthly sending volume rather than by list size, and the comparison pages say all packages include the full range of features, "with the only difference being the number of emails you can send." There are four plans. Each has an introductory price for the first 6 months, after which the standard price applies. The UK Digital Guide lists them in pounds:
- Starter, up to 2,500 emails a month: £7 a month for the first 6 months, then £10 a month
- Plus, up to 10,000 emails a month: £5 a month for the first 6 months, then £15 a month
- Pro, up to 30,000 emails a month: £15 a month for the first 6 months, then £30 a month
- Premium, up to 60,000 emails a month: £25 a month for the first 6 months, then £40 a month
The Canadian page gives the same figures in dollars ($7 then $10, $5 then $15, $15 then $30, $25 then $40), and the Spanish page gives them in euros (7 € then 10 €, 5 € then 15 €, 15 € then 30 €, 25 € then 40 €). The German page lists the same four plans and send volumes and says the basic functions are included in every package. Note the oddity in the introductory pricing: the Plus plan starts cheaper than Starter for the first 6 months even though it allows a higher monthly volume. After the introductory period the order returns to what you would expect.
Because the plans are sized in emails rather than contacts, the budget question is how many sends a month a list produces. A small list mailed once a month may fit Starter, while the same list mailed every week can need a larger plan. The largest published plan stops at 60,000 emails a month, and the pages list no plan above it.
Data location and compliance
Data location is where IONOS makes its clearest claims. The German Digital Guide lists "Serverstandort Deutschland und EU" (server location Germany and EU) and "DSGVO-konformer E-Mail-Versand" (GDPR-compliant email sending), and adds that data storage is subject to European data protection rules. The Spanish page says the servers are in the European Union and that data storage therefore complies with the GDPR. The English pages list "GDPR-compliant newsletter dispatch" as the first feature. These are the company's own statements about its tool.
Who it suits
IONOS Email Marketing fits small businesses, local shops and freelancers who want a simple newsletter tool from the same company that already hosts their website or store. The drag-and-drop editor, templates and AI text generation cover the work of writing and designing a newsletter without a designer or copywriter. The stated server location in Germany and the EU, together with double opt-in, suit senders whose recipients are mostly in Europe. Flat pricing by email volume, with every feature in every plan, makes the choice of plan a matter of arithmetic rather than a feature comparison.
It is a narrower fit for a team that needs a large integration catalog, a developer API, or sending volumes above the published Premium ceiling of 60,000 emails a month. The pages describe a focused newsletter tool rather than a full marketing automation suite, so a business planning complex multi-step journeys should confirm the automation depth before moving its list. For the audience it is built for, an SME that wants its site, domain, mailboxes and newsletters on one bill, it is a straightforward and inexpensive option.
