Gumbamail is an email campaign tool that lives inside Gmail. It installs as an extension from the Chrome Web Store, and once activated it lets a user build contact lists, design an email from templates, send or schedule a campaign and read the report without leaving the inbox. The homepage calls it "A mail merger to personalize and send mass emails quickly within Gmail." Its blog says it is "designed exclusively for small business owners to launch their email marketing efforts without extra hassle", and one testimonial on the homepage comes from a small church that wanted something lightweight to use with its Google Workspace. The plans are priced by how many emails go out each month, starting with a free plan of 250 emails.

Getting started inside Gmail

Installation runs through the Chrome Web Store, where the homepage shows a 4.1/5 average rating. After clicking "Add to Chrome", the user is sent to Gmail, a welcome popup appears in the top right corner, and an "Activate account" button requests the Google permissions the extension needs. The homepage stresses that Gumbamail "needs only few permission in order for you to create lists of contacts easily." From then on, every feature, including account settings and the help center, is reached from within Gmail, which the site presents as its main advantage: no switching context between tools.

Contact lists

A campaign starts from at least one recipient list. Lists are built in three ways: uploading a CSV file, selecting a Google Sheets spreadsheet, or picking a group from Google Contacts. Each row needs an email address and can carry more data, such as the recipient's name, for personalizing the email. After an import, the user reviews the data and can discard rows or columns before saving the list. A user can keep multiple lists and send one campaign to several of them.

Designing and sending a campaign

The campaign flow on the homepage has four steps: set the campaign name, the sender and the subject; select or import contacts; design the email; send and check the report. The design step uses a drag-and-drop editor or one of the predefined templates. The FAQ puts the template count at "more than 850", while the blog says all plans come with access to 800+ email templates. Designs are responsive, so the email displays properly across devices, and fields from the list personalize each message.

Before sending, the user can send a test email. The campaign can then be sent at once or scheduled for a specific date and time.

On delivery, the homepage says: "We manage the sending of your campaings using our own system. We do not use third party platforms." The section is headed "Send mass email without limits", though each plan still has its monthly cap and the free plan a daily one.

Reports

Each campaign gets its own report. According to the FAQ, it shows the content that was sent, delivery statistics such as emails delivered, soft bounces and hard bounces, and engagement figures for opened, not opened and complaints. The user can view and export the behavior of each recipient, see how many times each link was opened, and look at advanced data such as opens per device, per country and per browser. The homepage says each report "respect the GDPR policy" while tracking the campaign, and that users "can then send GDPR approved email." The pricing table distinguishes a simple campaign report on the free plan from an advanced report on the paid plans.

Deliverability

A user who owns a domain can register and verify it in Gumbamail and then set up DKIM and SPF. The FAQ explains that this lets email providers verify the sender's identity, so the emails are considered legitimate when providers decide on delivery. The free plan allows one domain; paid plans have no domain limit.

Plans and pricing

Gumbamail says its plans "depend mostly on the number of emails per month to be sent." The pricing table offers monthly or yearly billing in euros or dollars.

  • Free: 0€ or $0. 250 emails a month with a daily limit of 100, one domain, a simple campaign report and the Gumbamail logo in emails. The FAQ says the free plan is associated automatically on activation, "has no time limitation" and needs no credit card.
  • Basic: 9€ or $11 a month on monthly billing, 8€ or $9 a month on yearly billing. 50,000 emails a month, no daily limit, advanced reports, the logo still shown in emails, and 1 saved row. The site pitches it to "Small businesses that need to stay in touch with their contacts."
  • Standard: 22€ or $26 monthly, 18€ or $21 yearly. 100,000 emails a month, no logo in emails, 10 saved rows.
  • Premium: 118€ or $137 monthly, 95€ or $110 yearly. 500,000 emails a month, no logo, 50 saved rows.

Every plan, including the free one, has no limit on templates or recipients. The table also gives each plan a number of saved rows, from 0 on the free plan to 50 on Premium. The blog also calls the free tier an "always-free plan" and says Gumbamail "works in conjunction with any website platform (or none at all!)."

Support

Support runs through a help center, reachable from inside Gmail, whose FAQ answers link out with "Read more on HelpScout", and through a contact form on the homepage, where the company says it will reply as soon as possible. The FAQ page covers installation, activation, the free plan, lists, first campaigns, reports and deliverability.

Who it suits and who it does not

Gumbamail suits a small business, a club, a church or a solo professional who already works in Gmail and Google Workspace and wants to send a newsletter or announcement to a list kept in Google Sheets or Google Contacts, with a proper designed template and open and bounce tracking, without adopting a separate marketing platform. The free plan fits a very small list, and Basic at 50,000 emails a month covers regular sends to a few thousand people.

It is a campaign and mail merge tool rather than an automation suite: the site describes lists, templates, scheduling, reports and domain authentication, and no automated sequences, signup forms or landing pages. A business that wants welcome series, cart recovery or subscriber forms on its website should look at a fuller marketing platform.
