EcoSend

EcoSend is an email marketing platform for purpose-driven organizations: campaigns, newsletters, drip sequences and behavior-based automations, sign-up forms, segmentation and analytics, sold on a free plan and two paid tiers. The pricing page describes the company as "a small team in London", and the About page says the team has been building email software since 2006 and launched EcoSend in 2022 so that purpose-driven teams would not have to compromise between functionality, price and a company they align with.

Its pitch rests on three things beyond the feature list. The About page says EcoSend is independently owned and B Corp certified (the timeline dates the certification to June 2025). Every campaign sent through it automatically funds verified nature restoration at no extra cost. And support comes from people rather than a chatbot: the site repeatedly promises that you will talk to its UK-based team. The founder's letter on the About page frames the product as a reaction against price hikes, pushy upgrade tactics and "AI nonsense" in the tools purpose-driven teams were using before.

What a sender gets

The email builder. EcoSend's editor has two modes in one: a distraction-free writing canvas for text-led newsletters, where you can paste from Notion or Google Docs or write in Markdown, and a drag-and-drop layout mode with columns, blocks and sections. You can fine-tune padding, colors, typography and layout, save a header, button or section as a reusable block, and keep uploaded images in an Image Library that lets you search and reuse them across campaigns. Inline image editing handles cropping, rotating, flipping, borders and rounded corners inside the builder. Images are resized, reformatted and compressed automatically, with WebP or AVIF served where clients support them; the builder page says this is available on every plan at no extra charge.

Personalization uses variables: typing {{ inserts a first name, company or any custom field, with fallbacks for missing data. There is a preview-text field under the subject line, automatic social icons, a template gallery of free accessible templates, and custom HTML email for teams that want to write their own HTML and CSS. The builder page says layouts are responsive by default and tested in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and Yahoo, and that client testing is included for all paying customers with no add-ons or extra usage fees.

Review Mode. Before a campaign goes out, Review Mode checks spelling and grammar, flags low color contrast and images without alt text, and checks subject line length, the unsubscribe link, buttons without links, and variables that lack working data or fallbacks, each with a one-click fix. The site stresses that the checks run privately on your device, "no third parties, no AI". On the pricing table Review Mode is a paid-plan feature.

Lists, segmentation and automation. Contacts can sit on multiple mailing lists, be added manually from the dashboard or arrive through forms. The features page lists segmentation for targeted campaigns and Smart Groups, saved segments you can reuse across campaigns. Automation covers automated workflows that send based on subscriber behavior, multi-step drip campaigns and scheduled campaigns. The builder page names welcome sequences, weekly newsletters, product updates, event invitations, impact and charity updates, and feedback surveys as typical uses.

Forms. Three form types are listed: hosted forms shared by a link, inline forms embedded on any page of your site, and pop-up forms. The features page describes them as GDPR-compliant, accessible and responsive.

Sending and reporting. You can send from your own domain (one domain on the free plan, multiple on the paid tiers), schedule sends, and broadcast to a whole list. Campaign reports show opens, clicks and engagement per campaign, and an insights dashboard reports at project level. A sustainability dashboard shows the trees you have planted and the carbon offset, and the pricing table notes that custom reporting is available.

Integrations and API. The pricing table lists full API access for custom integrations, webhooks, a Zapier connection the page says reaches "5,000+" other apps, CRM connections, and form connections to Typeform and Gravity Forms; the features page adds a Gravity Forms route for WordPress sites and a Mailchimp import for subscribers, lists and campaign data. EcoSend does not present itself as an SMS or push platform: every feature on its pages is about email.

A free builder without an account. EcoSend also runs a free HTML email template builder on its public site. It needs no sign-up, previews on mobile and desktop, accepts an uploaded template to keep editing, and exports HTML or a downloadable file that the page says works with most email service providers, not just EcoSend.

Plans and prices

The pricing page opens with "Start free. 7-day free trial on paid plans. Cancel anytime." Prices show in pounds with a dollar toggle, and the page says prices exclude tax, there are no lock-in contracts, and canceling takes "two clicks, not two phone calls". Paying yearly saves two months.

  • Sapling is free, "no strings attached": 250 contacts, 1,000 emails per month, one tree planted, and help docs. The sign-up form adds "Free forever" and "No credit card required".
  • Canopy starts at £12.50 per month paid yearly, shown for 500 contacts and 2,000 emails per month. The comparison table takes the plan up to 200,000 contacts with monthly sends of four times your contact count. It adds automations, Review Mode, a tree planted each month, multiple sending domains, and email support "any time" from the UK team.
  • Forest is quoted on request for high-volume senders, with no limit on contacts, unlimited sends priced on sends rather than storage ("Pay for sends, not storage"), your own sending IPs, priority support, an account manager, onboarding for complex setups, team training, migration done for you, and phone support.

Team members are free on the paid plans ("Invite your whole team at no extra cost"), with permissions to control who can do what. Charities and nonprofits get a discount, and the FAQ takes up the question of an agency partner deal. The About page adds that EcoSend will migrate you for free and, if you do not like it, migrate you back.

Compliance, security and infrastructure

The pricing table's compliance section lists GDPR-compliant data handling, double opt-in, one-click unsubscribe, two-factor authentication and custom security policies. The features page says EcoSend is certified under the UK government's Cyber Essentials scheme, that the platform runs on renewable energy, and that its infrastructure is optimized for deliverability with real-time monitoring.

Who it suits

EcoSend fits charities, B Corps, ethical brands, small agencies and solo newsletter writers who want a capable, well-designed email tool and care who they buy it from. The free Sapling plan is enough to start a small newsletter, and Canopy's automations and Review Mode cover most small-team needs at a published price. The accessibility defaults and client-tested rendering suit teams without a designer. Larger senders get their own sending IPs and a named account manager on Forest, but on a quoted price. A team that needs SMS or other channels alongside email, or wants AI writing tools built into the editor, is looking for a different kind of product.
