Copernica is an email marketing and marketing automation platform built with European infrastructure and compliance as core design principles. Under the heading "Why choose a European platform", the company stresses that its infrastructure is subject only to European law, not the US Cloud Act, and that customer data is stored in the Netherlands on the company's own servers rather than on AWS or Google Cloud. The platform combines email campaign sending, transactional email, SMS, and marketing automation with real-time customer data and segmentation.

Company and infrastructure

Copernica BV is based at De Ruijterkade 112 in Amsterdam, and its site runs in Dutch and English. The company claims "Trusted by 500+ brands" including MaxiAxi, Smartphonehoesjes, and PI marketing. Under "No US law" the site says: "Our infrastructure is exclusively subject to European law. No CLOUD Act means no access for foreign governments to your customer data." Under "Own infrastructure" it adds: "No AWS, no Google Cloud. Own servers in the Netherlands, own technology, full control." The homepage sums the offer up as email campaigns built on "customer data hosted in the EU."

Product suite

Copernica offers three products: Marketing Suite (an all-in-one marketing automation platform), SMTPeter (a cloud-based SMTP service for transactional email), and MailerQ (an on-premise Mail Transfer Agent for high-volume sending). The site describes the Marketing Suite as "an all-in-one solution for marketing teams, CRM managers, and organizations focused on customer relationships", covering campaigns across email, SMS and web, segmentation and personalization, and automation and reporting. Each of the three products has its own pricing page.

Email marketing and automation

The core of Copernica is described as "All-in-one solution for creating, managing, and optimizing campaigns across multiple channels with advanced segmentation and powerful personalization." The platform includes an email editor for designing and customizing responsive email templates. The database component centralizes and enriches customer data for targeted campaigns. A website tracker monitors website activity and can trigger automated campaigns in real time based on visitor behavior. Automation features enable personalized email workflows based on customer behavior.

The Marketing Suite's module list is specific: an email editor, a follow-up manager for automated follow-up actions, push notifications, an SMS module, a layered database, native integrations, testing mailings, a REST API with webhooks, website forms, a website tracker and coupons. On the email side the platform handles campaigns and newsletters as well as transactional mail. The site states "Send transactional, service or notification emails with high deliverability" and "Combine SMS and email for greater impact." The site's solution pages promise to "Turn website visitors into customers" through the tracker, and the coupon module generates codes for promotions.

Segmentation and personalization

Advanced segmentation is built into the platform. The marketing automation section says a sender can "Create personalized campaigns, manage cross-channel interactions, and respond to real-time behavior with ease", with "scalable personalization, smart segmentation, and tools designed to deliver measurable marketing results." The layered database is the base for this: the homepage says it will "Centralize and enrich customer data for highly targeted campaigns". Test mailings are a listed module, so a campaign can be checked before the full send.

Transactional email and infrastructure

SMTPeter, the transactional email product, is described as a "Simple and scalable cloud SMTP service for sending transactional mail." Its feature list names template support, detailed statistics, email volume controls, DMARC deployment, GDPR compliancy, a web-based dashboard and a REST API, and the homepage says it optimizes outgoing email "with authentication, statistics and improved deliverability" and needs no technical expertise.

MailerQ is the on-premise Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) option for senders requiring complete infrastructure control and handling very high volumes of email daily. It offers "advanced queuing", support for "large volumes of email", "full control and logging", message rerouting and modification capabilities, and IP warm-up assistance. Installation and operation are on a Linux-based server.

Compliance and data protection

The company says its GDPR approach is "GDPR By Design": "Not made compliant afterwards, but built in accordance with European privacy legislation from the very first line of code." "Keep your customer data secure in Europe" is one of its email solution pages, and a separate Copernica & GDPR page explains the approach in more detail.

For a sender weighing data protection, the practical points are the ones the site lists: servers in the Netherlands that the company runs itself, no US cloud provider underneath, and a platform subject only to European law.

Deployment options

Copernica offers cloud deployment (hosted by the company in the Netherlands) and on-premise deployment. The company states "Deploy in the cloud or on-premise, maintain full control over your data, and scale effortlessly to millions of emails without compromising speed, security, or performance." This gives organizations the option to run the platform on their own infrastructure if required by data governance or contract terms.

Integrations and support

Native integrations are a listed module, and the help center has an integrations section covering "External or in-house integrations to connect your tools with Copernica", alongside the REST API and webhooks. The company says "Our 300+ partners extend the power of our software, helping you implement, customize, and maximize results", and runs a partner program for agencies and consultants. Support comes through documentation, Marketing Suite trainings, white papers and a ticket form, and a 30-minute demo with a specialist is offered to prospective customers.

Licensing and pricing

The site has separate pricing pages for the Marketing Suite, SMTPeter and MailerQ, and a "Find the right plan" link beside the demo request; the homepage itself shows no figures.

Scale

The site says the email platform can "scale effortlessly to millions of emails", and one of its email solution pages is titled "Send at scale without limits". MailerQ exists for senders who want to run that volume on their own servers, and SMTPeter for those who want it as a cloud service.

Use cases and customers

The site names use cases including marketing automation for publishers, automated recruitment communication, transactional email workflows, customer journey automation, website visitor conversion, and multi-channel communication. Its customer stories include MaxiAxi, which it says achieved 705% growth in email marketing, Smartphonehoesjes, which it says boosted email revenue by 200%, and Mailmeisters, which it says generates more revenue with automations.

Who it suits

Copernica suits an organization that keeps EU customer data and wants it on European-run servers, with no US cloud provider involved. Publishers and recruiters get dedicated solution pages, and marketing teams and CRM managers get segmentation, automation and SMS in one suite. A business sending both marketing and transactional email can consolidate both on one platform and use SMTPeter or MailerQ for the transactional layer. An organization with strict data governance requirements gains confidence from European infrastructure and no US data access. Agencies and consultants can join the partner program and implement Copernica for their clients.

The platform is less suited for a business requiring only basic email sending without automation or segmentation, or for a small organization that does not need its own-infrastructure and data control story and wants a price on the homepage before talking to sales.
