CleverReach

Tap a star to rate

CleverReach is a German email marketing platform for newsletters, automated campaigns and transactional email, aimed mainly at small and medium businesses. A review on emailtooltester.com says the company was set up in Germany in 2007 and "claims that its newsletter software is now used by over 400,000 customers", and it describes CleverReach as one of the major do-it-yourself email tools in the European market that is now moving into the English-speaking one. The company's own profile on sourceforge.net sums up the pitch as "Double-Opt-in, highest privacy standards and servers located in the EU", and says the product lets a sender create a free newsletter in minutes with no tech experience.

A market analysis on 6sense.com counts 13,304 CleverReach customers in its newsletter marketing category, an 11.12% share, and says the customer base is concentrated in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Building and sending

The emailtooltester.com review rates the editor as user-friendly, with undo and redo, a media library, core content blocks including a built-in countdown, and newer elements such as an image slider, a QR code generator, an event block, a feedback block ("How did you like this newsletter?"), animated GIFs, an integrated image editor and a video block that turns a YouTube link into a clickable preview. Some of these are still in beta. The review puts the template library at 150+ responsive templates, notes that a sender can save their own templates and blocks, and describes a template generator that builds a starting template from a website's design. An AI content generator, which the review says is powered by OpenAI, helps with subject lines and newsletter copy.

Message types listed in the review include individual and regular campaigns, autoresponders, A/B split tests, RSS campaigns, follow-up campaigns and transactional email such as order and dispatch confirmations. Testing tools cover test sends, a mobile preview, a spam check, an accessibility test, and client previews through Litmus at extra cost; the review gives 15€ for 3 Litmus tests and "around $17" for 5 accessibility tests.

Lists, segments and forms

According to the emailtooltester.com review, personalization uses merge tags, segments built on behavior or custom fields, and conditional content blocks, so different subscribers see different content in one email. Subscribers can be tagged and segmented by opens, clicks and purchases, and a bounces tab helps with list hygiene. Signup forms come as inline forms and pop-ups built in a WYSIWYG editor, with custom fields, multiple choice or dropdown options and reCAPTCHA. The review notes there is one core form type and no form A/B testing, and that a landing page editor, reached through the form options, is in beta.

A cuspera.com comparison adds an NPS survey tool that asks customers to rate satisfaction from 0 to 10, and suggests asking unsubscribers why they left.

Automation with THEA

Automation runs in a visual workflow editor called THEA. The emailtooltester.com review counts 20 ready-made workflow recipes, triggers on opens and clicks, abandoned cart campaigns, tagging and A/B tests set up through split conditions, and it says automation is included in every plan. The cuspera.com page describes workflows triggered by tag assignment, purchase or subscription and lifecycle campaigns that react to clicks and purchases, and quotes a tt-consulting case study in which staff built newsletters and automation workflows on their own "after only a few hours of training". Native website tracking and CRM-based automations are not part of the product, according to the review.

Deliverability, privacy and reporting

The review lists DKIM enforcement, automatic bounce and complaint handling, dedicated IP warm-up, a deliverability dashboard with a deliverability score and a health score, and alerts when a DKIM record disappears. It says CleverReach supports SPF, DKIM and DMARC, is a member of the Certified Senders Alliance, and lets a sender use their own domain or sub-domain for tracking links at no extra cost. On privacy, a "Data Protection Compliance" setting anonymizes recipient data in open and click reports and stores IP addresses only in anonymized form, forms can carry consent checkboxes, and the review says CleverReach offers a Data Processing Agreement and keeps all servers in the EU. The company's sourceforge.net profile adds that it is "CAN-SPAM & CASL compliant" and complies with the EU GDPR.

In the review, reporting filters Apple Mail Privacy Protection opens, shows click heat maps, tracks shop sales when a store is connected, and has customizable dashboard widgets. The cuspera.com page adds a Google Analytics connection.

Integrations and team access

The review names Shopify, WooCommerce, Shopware and Magento, SugarCRM, and tools through Zapier, with an API as another route in. The cuspera.com integration list adds Close CRM, Quentn, Klick-Tipp, SendOwl, Superchat, Zeeg and GetSiteControl. Multiple users with custom permissions are included, the review says, at no extra cost, which makes collaboration with agencies straightforward. The interface is available in German, English, Italian, Dutch, Spanish and French, the last two by automatic translation.

Plans and prices

The emailtooltester.com table prices plans monthly by subscribers. The free Lite plan covers 250 subscribers and 1,000 emails, carries some adverts, and still includes automation. Basic plans run from 15 € for 500 subscribers and 2,000 emails through 18 €, 20 €, 35 € and 60 €, the last for 5,000 subscribers and 20,000 emails. Pro plans, with unlimited emails, start at 98 € for 7,500 subscribers and reach 120 € for 10,000, 480 € for 50,000 and 900 € for 100,000. Annual billing brings a 10% discount. Premium support is extra, at "$26,63 per month" in the review's wording, and is included only in the Enterprise plan. Prepaid, Prepaid Monthly and high-volume options also exist, and the review calls prepaid relatively expensive for occasional senders.

Support

The review says support sits inside the tool behind a dedicated button. On the free plan it is limited to FAQs and the help center; standard support usually answers within a day, and premium support adds phone support and replies typically within 24 hours. There is no live chat. Phone support is offered in German and English.

Who it suits

CleverReach suits a business in the EU that sends at least monthly, wants servers in the EU, a DPA and anonymized reporting, and prefers a flat price per subscriber with unlimited sends from the Pro level. Shops on Shopify, WooCommerce, Shopware or Magento get ready connections and abandoned cart flows. It is a weaker fit for creators who want paid newsletters, since the review says it offers no monetization, for teams that want a full CRM or website tracking, and for anyone chasing the lowest price.
