BigMailer is an email marketing platform built around managing many brands from one account. Its home page aims it at agencies: "All your clients or projects, team members, and email campaigns in one place, with efficient workflows for exceptional ROI." The footer adds pages for marketing agencies, franchises, white label email marketing and sending through Amazon SES, which together describe who the product is for. The pricing page's headline states the model: "One Price for ALL Your Marketing + Automation + Transactional Email." BigMailer says it is used by "10,000+ brands."

Brands, users and white label

The unit of organization is the brand. The FAQ defines it: "A brand (aka sub-account) is a business entity that has it's own lists and unsubscribe page. It can be a website, a client, or a product/project within the same company or a single location." That covers an agency's client list, a company with several product lines, and a franchise with one brand per location. The home page promises "Add unlimited brands to manage from the main dashboard. Invite team members or clients to manage their brands and control access level with just a few clicks." A client can therefore log in and manage its own brand without seeing the others.

Contacts are counted per brand. The FAQ says "Number of contacts = number of unique email addresses in a brand (aka sub-account)", so the same address in two brands counts twice. White label is part of the Business Pro plan and offered as an option on Agency Pro, and the site has a dedicated page on white label email marketing for agencies that want to present the platform under their own name.

What a sender gets

Email types. Marketing campaigns, automated campaigns and transactional email all run on one platform. The home page's wording is "Consolidate your promotional and transactional emails on one platform, with a single price point. Leverage unified customer view with real-time engagement based targeting. Manage your sender reputation." Every plan includes RSS-to-email campaigns, which turn a blog feed into scheduled sends.

Templates. There are three ways to build an email: "Bring your existing HTML templates into Classic HTML editor, use our drag-n-drop editor to build mobile optimized templates, or pick and customize a template from our library." Agencies that receive finished HTML from designers can drop it straight into the classic editor.

Segmentation and reporting. All plans include "advanced segmentation and reporting." One reviewer quoted on the site singles out "the ability to click and re-engage clients with segmentation and suppression lists." The platform tour describes a report by email domain: "Instead of looking at average statistics for entire campaign you can see which mailbox providers you have a lower inboxing with and address more specific issues." That view is useful when one mailbox provider starts filtering a sender's mail while the others still deliver.

Landing pages. Each paid plan includes a set number of landing pages and site domains, from 20 landing pages and 10 site domains on Business Lite to 100 landing pages and 50 site domains on Agency Pro.

Integrations and API. For data sync, the home page says "Sync up your customer records with hundreds of apps by using an integration with Zapier, Integromat, Pabbly or Zoho. Or use our webhooks to push data into your application." The help section links FAQ, help and API documentation, and a separate integrations page.

Amazon SES connection. BigMailer can send through the customer's own Amazon SES account. The platform tour calls this "a very cost-effecting option for infrequent senders" and explains that a customer can create several SES connections, "to either different regions or different AWS accounts", and choose a connection for each brand or group several brands on one connection. That lets an agency keep clients' sending separate at the infrastructure level as well.

Plans and pricing

The home page says there is "No time limit, no features locked. Paid plans start at $20/mo." Every account starts on the Startup plan, which carries the BigMailer logo in the email footer and on the unsubscribe page. The paid plans are priced per block of contacts:

  • Business Lite: 1k to 200k contacts at $7.5 per 5000 contacts a month. Sending goes through the customer's own Amazon SES connection, with up to 10 times the contact count in emails per month, up to 20 users, 20 landing pages and 10 site domains, and chat and email support.
  • Business Pro: up to 200k contacts at $15 per 5000 contacts a month, with up to 10 times the contact count in emails per month, up to 50 users, 50 landing pages and 20 site domains, chat and email support, deliverability optimization and white label.
  • Agency Pro: 200k+ contacts at $12 per 5000 contacts a month, with up to 10 times the contact count in emails per month, up to 100 users, 100 landing pages and 50 site domains, deliverability optimization and a white label option.

The footnotes add that "Startup and Business Lite plans require your own Amazon SES connection at extra cost of $0.1 per 1000 emails sent", that additional sending costs $0.75 per 1000 emails, and that additional users are quoted on request. The home page FAQ puts the SES requirement slightly differently, saying it applies only to the free plan and that customers can ask via chat for access to sending through BigMailer's own platform. Either way, the pricing FAQ notes that "we need to review and approve your account for sending with BigMailer" and that sender domain verification through DNS records is required.

Cancelling or downgrading is allowed at any time after deleting contacts, "as long as you did not email those contacts in the last 21 days (we have to allow for unsubscribes)." Lists and segments can be exported at any time.

Rules and support

BigMailer does not allow cold email. The pricing FAQ is direct: "sending cold outreach campaigns and/or using purchased lists is against BigMailer terms of service and will result in account suspension." It is a platform for lists the sender has permission to mail.

Support runs by "live chat 7 days a week, 8am-8pm EST", according to the home page FAQ, and the team helps with account setup and can hold a support call over Zoom. The platform tour offers a 5 minute video walkthrough and live demos by screen share, to which a prospect can invite as many colleagues as they want. The footer lists an email deliverability guide, product updates, an affiliate program and an influencer program. Reviews on the site praise the support; one reads "Platform is super easy to use. Customer service has been top notch. We already see improvement in email delivery."

Who it suits

BigMailer fits agencies running email for many clients, franchises with a brand per location, and companies with several products that each need their own lists and unsubscribe page. The per-brand structure, per-client logins, white label and one price for marketing and transactional mail are all aimed at that reader. Senders already on AWS, or those who mail rarely, can keep costs low through their own SES account on the entry plans, while larger lists get BigMailer's deliverability optimization on Business Pro and Agency Pro. The site offers comparison pages against other providers for teams weighing a switch.

It does not suit cold outreach or anyone using bought lists, which the terms forbid. A sender who wants no AWS setup at all should start from Business Pro, where the pricing page does not require an SES connection.
