Tap a star to rate
PhotonConsole is a transactional email service whose relay is branded PhotonRelay. It sends the messages an application cannot afford to lose, such as one-time passcodes, password resets, payment notifications, order confirmations, billing statements and security alerts, over standard SMTP or a JSON REST API. The homepage headline is "High-Throughput SMTP Relay Built for Maximum Deliverability," and the offer rests on three promises: fast delivery, placement in the primary inbox, and pay-per-use pricing with no monthly subscription. The first 5,000 emails every month are free, with no credit card required to start.
Sending by SMTP or API
Most customers will connect over SMTP. The relay host is smtp.photonrelay.com, on the standard ports 587 with TLS or 465, and the site describes the service as 100% compliant with standard SMTP, so frameworks and mailer libraries work without refactoring. The homepage says switching from another provider means replacing 3 environment variables (host, port and user) and lists full compatibility with Laravel, Django, Rails, Next.js and WordPress. The FAQ puts a migration at less than 5 minutes.
For new code there is a REST endpoint at api.photonconsole.com/v1/send, authenticated with a bearer API key and taking a JSON body with the sender, a list of recipients, the subject and the HTML content. The homepage shows ready-to-copy examples in cURL, Node.js with Nodemailer, Python with smtplib, PHP with PHPMailer, Laravel and Go. PhotonConsole's own engineering guide says the REST API runs alongside SMTP against the same delivery pipeline, with documented response codes and retry behavior, and rates the template support as basic.
Speed and the delivery pipeline
Speed is the headline claim. The site gives an average delivery latency under 1.2 seconds and lays out its pipeline step by step: app ingestion at 12ms, edge routing through anycast GeoDNS to the closest regional cluster at 28ms, a DNS and authentication audit at 45ms with inline checks of SPF, DKIM 2048-bit signing and DMARC alignment, queue isolation at 60ms, and direct MX delivery to Google, Microsoft 365, Apple Mail and Yahoo in under 750ms. Transactional OTPs are kept in a zero-backpressure priority queue, separated from bulk traffic, and the homepage quotes a throughput of 10,000+ messages per second.
Infrastructure claims on the homepage include global relay nodes, a redundant multi-region architecture, a 99.99% uptime SLA, TLS 1.3 with enforced HSTS ciphering, and zero body retention, meaning messages pass through an in-memory relay queue rather than being stored. The FAQ says every transmission enforces TLS 1.2 or higher in transit. The site also lists "SOC 2 Type II Aligned Controls," which is worded as alignment rather than a certification.
Deliverability features
PhotonConsole describes its inbox placement approach as automated IP reputation warming, strict SPF and DKIM compliance and ISP feedback loops, with proactive ISP reputation monitoring and adaptive sending rates. SPF and DKIM alignment is automated. The FAQ says the service complies with the Google and Yahoo 2024+ sender mandates, including mandatory SPF, DKIM and DMARC alignment and automated suppression of spam complaints above 0.10%.
Real-time diagnostics stream detailed events with hard and soft bounce categorization, and webhooks deliver instant callbacks, so an application does not need to poll for status. The sample event log on the homepage shows soft bounces such as a full mailbox being retried automatically.
For larger senders, dedicated IPs are available on request. The FAQ says senders dispatching 100,000+ emails a month can request dedicated IP pools with customized warmup schedules, and the pricing section invites anyone sending over 5 million emails a month to contact the deliverability engineering team for dedicated IP pools, custom warmup schedules and volume-tiered discounts. An Expert Deliverability Advisory offer covers migrations of 500,000+ monthly emails and spam folder problems.
The free Deliverability Checker
PhotonConsole runs a free Deliverability Checker that needs no signup. It tests a domain and a live seed inbox against the Google, Yahoo and Microsoft 2026 bulk sender mandates, inspecting SPF (RFC 7208), DKIM 2048-bit signatures (RFC 6376), DMARC policy (RFC 7489), IP blacklists, an Apache SpamAssassin score, the Gmail 102 KB size limit and one-click unsubscribe (RFC 8058). Results come as a shareable report kept for 7 days, which is useful before a first production send or after changing providers.
Pricing
Billing is pure pay-per-use. The first 5,000 emails each month are free, and every email after that costs a flat $0.50 per 1,000. There are no upfront fees and no subscription tiers. Usage accumulates through the calendar month, an itemized statement arrives on the 3rd of the following month, and there is a 7-day grace period to pay it. The homepage estimator shows 50,000 emails a month costing $22.50 with the free 5,000 included. PhotonConsole's engineering guide positions this model for startups and SaaS teams with variable, hard-to-forecast volume, since a surge in signups or password resets costs only what is sent.
Support and resources
Support runs through a contact and support page, a "Speak to an Engineer" option for high-volume and deliverability questions, and a developer newsletter on MTA protocols and ISP warming. The engineering blog publishes practical guides, for example on why PHP mail() fails in production, sending email from Next.js, and fixing WooCommerce order emails that do not arrive, along with explainers on SMTP errors and SPF, DKIM and DMARC. The site also publishes an anti-spam and abuse policy. Industry pages cover e-commerce and retail, BFSI and banking, startups, gaming and contests, EdTech, travel and hospitality, and D2C brands, and the use-case menu lists transactional emails, marketing automation, customer support and internal communications. Testimonials on the homepage come mostly from agencies and developers; a web and Shopify developer, for example, says moving client stores over with standard SMTP took less than five minutes and that the stores handled festive flash sale spikes without rate limiting.
Who it suits
PhotonConsole fits developers and small teams sending OTPs, password resets, receipts and alerts from applications already wired for SMTP, including WordPress sites, Laravel and Django apps and e-commerce stores. The free 5,000 emails cover staging and small production workloads, and the flat rate after that makes costs easy to predict from volume alone. Larger senders can move up to dedicated IP pools once they pass 100,000 emails a month.
Its own engineering guide names the main caveat: a smaller add-on ecosystem than long-established providers, with fewer third-party integrations at this stage. The service is also built around transactional messaging first, so teams that want a campaign editor should expect a lean toolset here.
