What Memberstack is

Memberstack is a membership and authentication platform that adds user login, Stripe payments and gated content to an existing website, and sends email to the members it manages. Its FAQ describes it as working "with Webflow, WordPress, custom code, and AI-built sites", and says that "anywhere you can add a script tag, you can add Memberstack authentication, payments, and gating." Webflow builders are its home crowd, but the product menu also lists guides for WordPress, Claude Code and so-called vibe coding, and audiences from agencies and freelancers to founders, marketers, education and fitness businesses. The company is Memberstack Inc.

The headline promise is speed: "Most builders have authentication, payments, and gated content working in under 30 minutes, and a full membership site live within a weekend." The homepage counts $200M+ processed for builders, 10M+ member accounts managed and 50K+ sites launched, and the API page adds 100,000+ builders and a 4.7 rating on G2.

Email on Memberstack

Email is one of the building blocks the homepage lists next to authentication, payments, gating, member data and Data Tables, described as "Design, send, and automate emails to your members, built right in, no third-party tool to wire up." The features list fills in what that covers:

  • Email campaigns. "Send beautifully designed campaigns to your members without leaving Memberstack", with newsletters, announcements and re-engagement emails named as examples. The pricing page calls this "Branded transactional + broadcasts".
  • Welcome emails, which "automate the process of reaching out to new members", at no additional cost.
  • Abandoned cart emails that follow up on unfinished checkouts to raise conversion.
  • Transactional mail from your own domain. Custom email domains let verification emails, password resets and notifications go out from the site owner's domain; "set up takes minutes." Password reset emails take their styling from the app's logo and brand color.
  • Email verification, which can be required at signup or prompted afterwards, with a "Verification required" page that blocks content until the address is confirmed.
  • Admin notifications by Slack message or email when someone signs up or upgrades to a paid plan.
  • Weekly reporting: "Weekly analytics reports sent automatically. No setup required."

Because every recipient is a member with a profile, plan and custom fields, campaigns can go to the people a site already knows, which is the point: it is list email for a membership, not a tool for buying reach.

Membership, login and gating

Members can sign in with email and password, one-time login codes (passwordless login) or social accounts. The features page lists Google, GitHub, LinkedIn, Facebook, Dribbble and Spotify logins, SSO via OpenID Connect, cross-domain login and a toggle for concurrent logins. The whole auth system can run on a custom domain, "login pages, SSO screens, and member cookies, all branded to you."

Content gating hides "entire pages, sections, buttons, or any element based on plan, payment status, or custom rules", and conditional visibility shows free members a preview of what an upgrade would open up. Members can hold several memberships at once, free and paid side by side. Custom fields, metadata and a member JSON object store profile data, and Data Tables add custom databases for structured content beyond member profiles. Signups from disposable email addresses are blocked by default, and hCaptcha can be added to forms.

Payments

Stripe runs billing through the site owner's own account, and payouts go straight to the owner's bank. Paid memberships can bill every week, month or year, alongside one-time charges, free trials, setup fees, custom expiration dates, coupons and coupon links, and pausing. The features page lists Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH and SEPA direct debit, Stripe Tax for sales tax, VAT and GST, and "payments in 135+ currencies."

Integrations and developer tools

Named integrations include Circle, Make.com, Typeform and an MCP server that lets AI tools manage members, plans and data tables. Developers get a DOM package for the browser, an Admin REST API and an Admin Node.js SDK, all shipping "full TypeScript definitions". Webhooks cover member events (created, updated, deleted), plan events and payment events such as member.payment.failed and member.payment.succeeded. The API FAQ says every API package is included on the free plan until launch. A Slack community on the API page counts 6,500+ developers.

Plans and pricing

Memberstack is free until launch: "All of Memberstack's features are free to try (no credit card) on a test site for an unlimited amount of time." After that, every plan carries the same features, and what changes is the member limit and the transaction fee:

  • Basic: $29 a month, or $25 a month billed yearly; up to 1,000 members; 4% transaction fee.
  • Professional: $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly; up to 5,000 members; 2% fee.
  • Business: $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly; 10,000+ members; 0.9% fee.
  • Established: $499 a month, or $399 billed yearly; 10,000+ members; no transaction fee.

Stripe's own processing fees come on top. The FAQ defines a transaction as "whenever a member pays to sign up on your website through Memberstack", so sites with only free members pay no fee. Live members count toward the limit, free and paying alike, and test members do not. An email arrives at 90% of the limit, and at 100% Basic and Professional accounts are upgraded to the next tier automatically.

Every plan includes social logins, Stripe payments, custom SSO, branded emails and email campaigns. Discounts on the pricing page: non-profits get 50% off any plan; startups that have raised less than $1M get 10,000 members and 0% fees for $249 a month ($199 yearly); people building for the Webflow community can get Basic free; and a 200 Member Plan costs $99 a month with no transaction fees. The pricing page offers "a 30-day money-back guarantee."

Security and support

The site footer shows badges for SOC 2 Type 1, GDPR and CCPA, and the features page says data "is always fully-encrypted when saved" and that its systems and services have received a stamp of approval from an independent audit firm. Admins can require 2FA and review access and event logs. Support runs through a help center with over a hundred guides, a community forum, Slack communities for Webflow and WordPress builders, and a support team.

Who it suits

Memberstack suits a Webflow or WordPress builder, or a founder with a custom or AI-built front end, who needs logins, paid plans and gated content and wants member email in the same dashboard. Course sellers, paid communities, SaaS prototypes and fitness or education businesses fit the model, and the free-until-launch trial lets a builder finish the whole setup first.

It is not a bulk newsletter tool. Its email reaches members, and the price follows member counts and payment fees, so a publisher who mainly sends free campaigns to a large list would be paying for login and billing features it does not use.
