Mailbob

Tap a star to rate

Mailbob is a newsletter platform for personal brands and small businesses. Its FAQ describes it as "an online service which allows you to create a newsletter and send e-mail campaigns to your audience," and the homepage invites you to "connect your audience or start from scratch, and send your first campaign in seconds." It is a deliberately small product: a block editor, analytics, hosted signup forms, list import, branding options and a REST API, priced by the number of emails you send each month rather than by the size of your list. The footer names the company behind it as Koddrio, Inc. One note for anyone planning a long commitment: a banner at the top of the homepage says "Mailbob is for sale!" and invites anyone looking to acquire a small email marketing platform to get in touch.

Writing and sending

The homepage breaks the product into five verbs. Write: "Our streamlined block editor doesn't get in your way. Publishing with Mailbob is just as easy as sending an email." Newsletters are composed in blocks rather than raw HTML, and the comparison page calls it an "easy to use email editor" and shows the "best in class content editor" alongside the dashboard.

Analyze: "Track your audience engagement with our analytics, without the need for a degree in data science." The comparison page lists issue and subscriber analytics and shows screens for "the dashboard and issue analytics" and "subscriber activity & engagement," so you can see how each issue performed and how individual subscribers engage over time.

Grow: "Hosted subscription forms and widgets for your site or blog. Easy to import your existing contacts." The FAQ says you can import an existing list "from Mailchimp and most other e-mail marketing platforms," and the comparison page adds TinyLetter as a source you can import from "with just a few clicks."

Customize: "Make it your own with our various branding styles and options. Bring your own domain too!" The plan comparison lists basic design options on every plan and a custom sending domain from Pro upward; the comparison page describes it as a "custom sending/profile domain."

Develop: "Build more complex integrations with our REST API, Embed SDK and very friendly developer support." The footer links to an API Reference.

Lists, segmentation and data

Beyond import, the comparison page lists several list features: audience segmentation, the option to "enrich contact details (via Gravatar)," and a "full issue and subscribers export," so both your back issues and your list can be taken out of Mailbob. Subscribers are not capped on any plan.

Double opt-in and list quality

Mailbob is strict about how people join a list. The FAQ says: "Double opt-in is a requirement for our users. All our hosted subscription forms are double opt-in. REST API subscription endpoints are also double opt-in by default." Every new subscriber confirms their address by email before they receive issues, whether they sign up through a hosted form or through your own code.

Purchased lists are refused. "Mailbob keeps IP and sender reputation healthy by working closely with Internet service and mail providers to combat unsolicited emails. Purchased lists may damage sender reputation, and are thus not supported." For senders on shared infrastructure this protects everyone's deliverability; one user quoted on the homepage calls Mailbob "super fast, very simple," with deliverability he rates "top-notch."

WordPress, API and developer help

The FAQ answers "Does Mailbob integrate into WordPress?" with: "Mailbob has plenty of integration options, including a plugin for WordPress and a feature-rich REST API. Reach out to our team for integration help and advice." Developer help is part of the offer rather than an add-on. A testimonial from Olga Goryaeva of wpmag.ru says "We got going in under 15 minutes with Mailbob. Integration was super easy and free as Mailbob's developers helped with the code at no extra cost." Another, from Karl Kubelet of kubeadm.org, says he "just wanted a simple list for my online course." The Enterprise plan adds developer support formally, and the comparison page lists "onboarding & developer support."

Plans and prices

Every plan has unlimited subscribers; what changes is the monthly email allowance and the support level. "Simple and affordable pricing for audiences of all sizes."

  • Starter: $19/mo for 10,000 emails a month. Unlimited subscribers, referral program, live chat support, basic design options.
  • Pro: $59/mo for 50,000 emails a month. Unlimited subscribers, priority support, custom sending domain.
  • Enterprise: $129/mo for 100,000 emails a month. Unlimited subscribers, priority and developer support, custom sending domain.

"Sending more than 100k emails per month? Contact us to get a custom quote." You can "upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time," and the homepage promises a "14-day money back guarantee." The comparison page puts the plans in terms of a weekly newsletter: $19 a month covers 2,500 weekly sends, and $59 a month covers 10,000 weekly sends.

The homepage says you can "start with 10,000 monthly emails and earn more with our very generous referral program." It also offers a direct bonus: "Get an extra free 1000 emails/month for a short testimonial." The comparison page's call to action is "Create Free Account," with the Starter plan described as having "unlimited contacts and up to 10,000 monthly sends."

Data location and GDPR

The FAQ addresses data protection directly: "Yes. Mailbob operates from datacenters within the EU and is fully GDPR compliant." The footer carries terms and conditions, a privacy policy and a "Report abuse" link.

Support and resources

Support runs by email and chat on every plan, with live chat on Starter, priority support on Pro and Enterprise, and developer support on Enterprise. Resources linked from the site include a blog, a contact page, a public feature roadmap, the referral program page and the API Reference.

Who it suits

Mailbob fits a blogger, course creator or small business that sends a regular newsletter to a list of any size and wants a flat monthly price tied to email volume. A writer with a big list who mails weekly can compare the per-email allowances directly: 2,500 weekly sends on Starter, 10,000 on Pro. The WordPress plugin, REST API and free developer help make it practical for a developer or technical founder who wants a list embedded in their own site, and EU datacenters matter for European senders.

It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs automated sequences or marketing automation, which the pages do not describe, and for a buyer who wants long-term certainty about the vendor, given the "for sale" notice on the homepage.
