Memlist
Tap a star to rate
Memlist is a Swedish CRM for membership organizations: associations, unions, member organizations and, on the public-sector side, municipalities, regions and government agencies. Its email tool sends newsletters, email campaigns and SMS to members directly from the member register, so the list a sender mails is the register itself rather than a copy synced into a separate tool. The company behind it is Memlist AB, and the homepage says the team sits in Gamla stan in Stockholm. The site is in Swedish and describes the product as "Ett modernt svenskt CRM" (a modern Swedish CRM) and as "Made in Sweden."
What the newsletter tool does
The newsletter page sums up the tool as a way to create and send newsletters, email campaigns and SMS to members "med visuell design, smart mottagarurval, schemaläggning och statistik i realtid" (with visual design, smart recipient selection, scheduling and real-time statistics). Those four parts make up the whole sending workflow.
Design. Emails are built in a drag-and-drop editor, without code. Content can be personalized with dynamic fields, so a message can carry each member's own details. The homepage says the builder is WCAG-adapted and "klarar av alla era galna idéer" (handles all your wild ideas), which matters to organizations that have to meet accessibility requirements in what they send, not only on their website.
Email and SMS in one editor. The FAQ answers the question of whether an organization can send both email and SMS with a plain yes. Both are created in the same visual editor: email is built with drag-and-drop, and SMS is written with a character counter and a preview, with the same dynamic fields for personalization. A related page on SMS adds templates, "cirka 150 merge tags" (about 150 merge tags), and renewal links, all sent directly from the member register.
Recipient selection. Recipients are taken straight from the member register. A sender filters members on any criteria or uses saved contact lists. The FAQ explains why that matters: "Urvalet är alltid aktuellt eftersom register och utskick bor i samma system" (the selection is always current because the register and the sending live in the same system). A member who joined this morning or left last week is already in or out of the next send, with no export and import in between.
Templates. A design can be saved and reused as a template between sends, so a monthly newsletter keeps its layout without being rebuilt each time.
Testing and scheduling. Before a send goes out, the sender can send a test to check the formatting and verify the sender domain, and then schedule delivery for an exact time.
Statistics. Statistics update in real time. Opens, clicks, bounces and delivery appear in a separate statistics view, and a version history lets the sender go back to earlier versions of a send. The homepage heading for this part of the product is "Analys till handling" (analysis to action).
The email and SMS product carries its own name, Memlist Marketeer, and has a separate site at marketeer.se. The newsletter page calls Marketeer a Swedish newsletter platform whose sends go through a Swedish mail server, whose data is stored entirely in Sweden, and whose recipients are drawn from the member register instead of being synced into a separate tool.
The rest of the CRM
Memlist is not a stand-alone newsletter service. The newsletter tool is one module of a membership system, and the site groups the product into four areas: members and customers, payments and bookkeeping, marketing and communication, and case handling.
- Member register. Members, customers and visitors are managed in one register, which the site says it handles securely under GDPR ("säkert enligt GDPR").
- Payments. The menu promises payment "med alla populära svenska betalningslösningar" (with all popular Swedish payment solutions). The homepage names Autogiro, which it calls a faithful servant with automatic payments that is still a popular option; recurring Swish, "Uppstickaren som kan utmana autogirot" (the challenger that can take on Autogiro); Stripe, for several payment methods; and direct bank connections, where the company says it partners with the major banks and integrates with their systems to simplify invoice handling. The site presents the aim as automating the whole payment flow, including renewals for events and newsletters.
- Mina sidor. A self-service portal where members keep their own details and cases up to date.
- Membership cards. A membership card with Wallet support.
- Case handling. Members and users can open their own cases, and the organization runs the conversation from there, with every case and event in the same system.
- Surveys, events and registration forms. All three sit in the product menu next to newsletters, and the solutions menu also lists donation solutions and Fritidskortet.
- AI features. The homepage lists "Smarta AI-funktioner" (smart AI features) that take over repetitive work, without naming them.
On integration, the homepage says the API makes it easy to connect Memlist's solutions with an organization's existing systems, and it counts "10+ appar och integrationer som betalningar & fakturering" (10+ apps and integrations such as payments and invoicing). Modules are flexible, so an organization can assemble the package it needs.
Data location, compliance and security
Data location is the center of the pitch. The homepage says the system was developed from the ground up in Sweden without external dependencies outside Europe, on open source programming languages and open source databases, with data on secure Swedish servers. On the email side it says that with Swedish databases and a Swedish mail server an organization meets its legal and regulatory requirements. The resources menu includes a guide to moving away from American providers.
The homepage compliance section, headed "Vi är compliant" (we are compliant), covers these frameworks, each in its own wording:
- ISO 27001: the site invites organizations to talk to the company about its information security management system and how it sets security requirements at every stage.
- ISO 9001: the company says it applies an internally defined quality management system across its organization.
- WCAG level AA: the company says it follows the guidelines for digital accessibility on its website and in its systems.
- SOC 2 and GDPR: the company says it meets the SOC 2 requirements for secure handling of customer data in the cloud and complies with GDPR, applying its data protection principles.
For public-sector senders, a related page on newsletters for municipalities, regions and agencies adds login with Entra ID and BankID and GDPR without transfers to third countries.
Plans, pricing and support
The newsletter page and homepage carry no prices. The menu links to a pricing page, and both pages invite an organization to get in touch for a walkthrough and help getting started. The homepage describes the product as flexible modules an organization adapts to its needs.
Support is a selling point: the homepage says "100% gratis support" (100% free support), and a related page on Memlist Marketeer mentions Swedish support. The site also carries documentation, guides, an FAQ and customer cases.
Who uses it
The homepage says Memlist helps 800 organizations, "stora som små" (large and small), and that more than 800 organizations use it daily. It names one of Sweden's largest employers, with 57,000 employees, as a current user, a union solution for Sveriges Arkitekter with advanced invoicing, and a member register built with Svenska Kockars Förening.
Who it suits
Memlist suits a Swedish association, union or member organization that wants its register, its fee collection through Autogiro or Swish, and its newsletters and SMS in one system, with sends going out through a Swedish mail server and data kept in Sweden. Municipalities and agencies get BankID and Entra ID login on top. Renewal links in SMS and recipient lists that are always current make it practical for a small office that sends renewal reminders and a monthly newsletter.
It is the wrong tool for a business that only wants a newsletter service for a subscriber list outside a membership register, for an organization outside Sweden (the site, its payment methods and its support are Swedish), and for anyone who wants to compare list prices online before a conversation with sales.
