i4a AMS

Tap a star to rate

i4a AMS is association management software, and its email marketing module sends campaigns, renewal reminders, welcome messages and event invitations straight from the association's live member database. It is built for professional and trade associations, association management companies (AMCs), healthcare organizations, education organizations and membership-based nonprofits. The site footer describes it as software to "Manage members, events, payments, email, websites, and reporting on one configurable platform," used by associations "since 1996." i4a and internet4associations are trademarks of D. W. Rome, Incorporated, and the homepage says the company has built association software for "30 years, independent, with no VC pressure to pivot or sell."

Email is not sold separately. The email page FAQ says "Email marketing is included with every i4a subscription at no additional charge."

Email that runs on member data

The core argument on the email page is that the list and the membership records are the same thing. The page says "i4a's email marketing pulls directly from your live member database," and that when "someone renews, joins, or registers for an event, your email segments update automatically." Each sent email "logs to the recipient's activity history," so staff can see every message a member received on that member's record.

Pre-built recipient lists follow the membership lifecycle. The page lists renewal reminders for members "expiring in 7, 30, 60, or 90 days," with a suggested automation at 30 days followed by reminders at 15 and 7; welcome messages for members who joined in the last 7, 30, 60 or 90 days; win-back campaigns for members who lapsed "0-7, 8-30, 31-60, or 61-90 days ago"; registration reminders for members who "haven't signed up for a specific event"; and statements for billing contacts with unpaid invoices. Lists can also be filtered by member type (Student, Professional, Corporate) or contact type (Board Member, Sponsor, Volunteer). For anything more specific, the page says to "Use Report Builder to create custom segments," combining member types, expiration ranges, custom fields, event attendance and purchase history.

Building and sending

The subscription includes a "Drag-and-Drop Email Builder," described as a "Visual template builder, no coding required," along with mobile-responsive templates, reusable templates for recurring campaigns and a "Full HTML editor for advanced customization." Personalization merges member data into subject lines and body copy, including first names, organization names, membership types, expiration dates and custom fields, and a "One-click variable library" copies a field so it can be pasted into a subject or message. The page's example subject line is "Hi ##FirstName##, Your Membership Expires ##ExpirationDate##."

Sends can be one-time or recurring and can be scheduled. Every campaign can send test emails first, and the FAQ says those tests "show how your message looks in real email clients." A campaign left unfinished saves as a draft automatically. Emails can include a text-only version "for accessibility and spam compliance." The page claims the combined approach turns a campaign into "15 minutes instead of 2 hours of spreadsheet work."

Reporting and follow-up

Senders can select several sent campaigns and "click Compare to view opens, clicks, and unsubscribes side-by-side," which the FAQ suggests using to test "different subject lines, send times, or message styles." Stats stay in the Sent folder for 60 days; after that, campaigns move to Archived, where total opens, clicks and unsubscribes remain visible.

Some reporting depends on the plan. The email page marks three features "Pro Platform only": opens and clicks tracking that shows "who opened and what they clicked," engagement-based follow-up that can "Resend to non-openers, send to clickers," and export of opens, clicks and recipients.

Deliverability and consent

The FAQ says "i4a uses enterprise-grade email infrastructure with authentication (SPF, DKIM) and reputation monitoring," and adds "We will work with you to make sure sent emails are properly authenticated to help ensure email delivery." Every marketing email can carry an unsubscribe link to a preferences page where members "can opt in or out of general marketing emails and any messaging types you've set up," and the site says "all unsubscribes are automatically logged for GDPR/CASL compliance."

AI add-on

AI is optional. The association email marketing guide on i4a's site says the platform "includes built-in email marketing with full automation capabilities" and that the company offers "AI tools (add-on) to help write subject lines and email content." The main navigation lists AI Productivity Tools under add-ons.

Pricing and limits

Pricing is flat rather than per contact. The email page says "Your pricing stays flat whether you email 1,000 members or 50,000+ members" and that associations can "Store historical contacts, lapsed members, and prospects without penalty." The FAQ is explicit: "No per-contact fees, no per-email fees, no send limits." It also says "There are no daily or monthly sending limits," so renewal reminders, weekly newsletters and event invitations go out "without hitting caps or incurring overage fees." The site's structured data describes the software as having "flat-rate pricing and unlimited member records" and says it "Starts at $99/month." A pricing and plans page exists, and demos are offered at "30-60 minute" length, tailored to the organization's size.

The rest of the platform

Email sits beside membership management (individual and organizational memberships, renewals, committees, chapters and a self-service member portal), a website builder with forms and member portals, and payments and accounting with GL coding, "QuickBooks export," AR aging and automated invoicing. Event management covers "Annual conferences, multi-session events, on-site check-in, CE credit tracking, and real-time attendee reports." Reporting adds renewal dashboards, a custom report builder with scheduling and Excel/CSV export. The menu lists a member community, directories, a job board, an online store and a survey builder, and integrations with WordPress, single sign-on and API access.

Support

The homepage says support requests are "answered same-day" and that the team "averages 19 years with i4a." The footer describes "U.S.-based support." A testimonial from an association management company on the homepage reports "More than $100K annual savings" compared with its previous "fragmented tool setup and per-member pricing."

Who it suits

i4a fits an association or membership nonprofit that wants email to be one module of its membership system, so renewal reminders, welcome messages, win-back campaigns and event reminders run off live membership status with no exports. The flat pricing and absence of send limits matter most to associations with large lists of lapsed members and prospects, and the lifecycle segments suit a small staff. An AMC running several client associations is also a named audience.

It is the wrong tool for an organization that only needs a newsletter sender. The email features come with an entire association management system, so the value depends on moving membership, events and payments onto i4a as well.
