What SMTP Ghost is

SMTP Ghost is a cold email platform that combines lead finding, inbox warm-up, sending with follow-ups and campaign analytics in one account. The homepage pitch is to "Send unlimited cold emails that actually reach your prospects' inboxes," with "unlimited email accounts, automated warmup, and advanced tracking." It is aimed at "sales teams, agencies, and entrepreneurs who need to send thousands of cold emails daily," and the use-case pages add SEO and link building, PR outreach, real estate, SaaS and HR recruiting.

The About page says SMTP Ghost "was founded in 2022" by an entrepreneur with a background in email marketing and software engineering, who previously founded the marketing agency Voy Media, and that the team is made up of "email deliverability experts, developers, and customer success specialists." The same company also runs Miss Blue (iMessage APIs) and EmailBump (marketing and transactional email), according to the footer.

The homepage cites "2.1M+ Cold emails sent," a "97% Deliverability rate," "$7.5M+ Customer revenue" and "15,000+ Active users." These are the company's own figures.

Finding leads

Lead generation is built in rather than bought separately. The features page lists:

  • a Google Maps Scraper that extracts business details to build contact lists,
  • a LinkedIn Email Finder that pulls an address from a profile URL,
  • an Instagram Email Scraper,
  • Domain Search to list addresses at a company,
  • a Professional Email Finder and an Email Lead Finder that draws on Google Maps, Twitter and websites.

The Professional plan includes a LinkedIn scraper and domain scraper as well, and a Lead Finder and Email Verifier API is available for automation.

Preparing inboxes

Connecting accounts. The homepage lists Gmail and personal Gmail accounts, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Outlook, and custom SMTP connections, and advertises a "5-minute Google OAuth setup." An FAQ on the security and integrations pages says it connects through SMTP and IMAP using Gmail's app password and "currently only" connects to Google Workspace accounts, so Microsoft users should confirm support during the trial.

Warm-up. Email warming is described as "100% Free" with "1 CLICK Activation," gradually increasing volume to build trust with providers. Inbox rotation distributes volume automatically across your mailboxes, and the Professional plan also lists IP rotation, blacklist monitoring and custom tracking domains.

List cleaning. Email validation checks addresses in real time and in bulk, with syntax and domain verification, before you send.

Campaigns and follow-ups

Campaigns are multi-step sequences with automated follow-ups. The follow-up rules on the homepage are "Send on day X," "When a link is clicked," "No reply in X days" and "No open in X days," and sequences can stop automatically on reply. The pricing comparison lists pause and cancel, a custom sending calendar, plain text, images, spintax, Liquid templates, custom text variables and an AI writer. A smart sending calendar times sends to recipient time zones.

Personalization. Template variables insert fields such as name, company or recent events. The AI personalization, according to the homepage, "creates contextually relevant icebreakers using LinkedIn data, company news, and industry insights." Credits power both enrichment (job titles and company details) and AI-generated content.

Testing and analytics. A/B testing covers subject lines, content and sending times and can pick the winning variant automatically. The dashboard gives an at-a-glance summary of each campaign, detailed counts of emails sent and opened, and a view of the last 30 days. A centralized conversations inbox handles replies, and the homepage lists segmentation by behavior, demographics and engagement.

Teams. Team collaboration includes role-based permissions, shared campaigns and activity tracking, with unlimited team members.

Integrations and API

The homepage names a REST API, webhook support and Zapier. The integrations page is more cautious: it lists Zapier, Airtable and webhooks as "Upcoming Integrations" and says webhooks and basic API access "will be free for all paid plans," with unlimited API calls and custom endpoints for enterprise customers. Custom integration requests are prioritized by demand.

Pricing

The pricing page offers one paid plan and a trial.

  • Professional, $29.99/month or $299.99/year. The annual price saves $59.89, which the page describes as "2 months FREE." It includes unlimited email accounts, contacts, emails, campaigns and team members, the scrapers and email finder, AI personalization, automated follow-ups, the conversations inbox, analytics and custom reports, A/B testing, free warm-up, inbox and IP rotation, reply handling, blacklist monitoring, 1,000 enrichment credits and priority support.
  • Free Trial, 30 days. One email account, 250 emails a month and 250 enrichment credits, with basic support. The page flags it as "Limited to 30 days & 250 emails/month," and no credit card is required.

Extra credit packs cost $19.99/month for 1,000 credits, $49.99 for 5,000, $119.99 for 20,000 and $249.99 for 50,000. The FAQ says the price is the same for "5 users or 50" and does not rise with contacts. There is no minimum contract, annual prepayments are refunded for unused months on cancellation, teachers and students get free accounts, and nonprofits get discounts.

An Enterprise column in the feature comparison lists SOC-2 compliance and single sign-on.

Support and free tools

The homepage promises "Dedicated Customer Success," with personalized onboarding and strategy sessions, regular check-ins and performance reviews, and live support during setup. A 14-minute demo video walks through setup and features. The site also offers free tools, including SPF, DKIM and DMARC record checkers, an MX record lookup, an email permutator, an email list cleaner, a spintax generator, an email header analyzer and an EML viewer.

Compliance and security

The homepage lists "GDPR and CAN-SPAM Compliance Tools," meaning unsubscribe mechanisms, consent and preference management, and audit trails. The security page says data centers have 24/7 physical security and that account data "is mirrored and regularly backed up off site."

Who it suits

SMTP Ghost suits small teams, agencies and founders who want a single low monthly price for cold email with lead finding included. Unlimited mailboxes, contacts and seats at $29.99 a month make it cheap to add senders, and the Google Maps and LinkedIn scrapers help local-business and B2B prospectors build lists without a separate data tool.

Agencies and SEO or PR teams running many small campaigns will find the free warm-up, rotation and A/B testing useful at no extra cost. Teams that depend on CRM sync should check which integrations are live, since the integrations page still lists several as upcoming, and Microsoft 365 users should confirm mailbox support in the trial.
